Hey there. This here is a oneshot on Ed and Al when they were little kids. I was watching episode 11 of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and I noticed that there was a 'swing' by their house.
Reviews will make me SUPER happy.
Enjoy.
The two boys were running down a large hill that was covered in bright, green grass. Spring had just recently begun, and the kids were eager to go outside and play some games with the sun's heat resting on their backs.
"Haha! You're so slow, Al! You'll never beat me in a thousand years!" the older one shouted cheerfully.
His younger brother just continued to laugh and run behind his older sibling, trying to catch up.
Their mother had been inside the Elric's family home, silently but blissfully gazing out the window, watching as her two little boys competed to see who ran faster. She sighed in a happy, yet nonchalant way, continuing her house duties.
Edward slowly came to a sudden stop, and took many deep breaths and sat down, putting his running muscles to rest. Al lied down next to him, watching the clouds as they slowly migrated their way across the sky, which was the color of the sea. Ed then lied down as well.
"Hey, Ed?" Alphonse asked innocently. Ed turned his head so their eyes would meet. "Um, I was wondering. Do you ever think that Dad might come back?" he asked his older brother.
Ed scowled and looked back at the sky. "Why do you care?"
"Why do you hate him?!" Al sat up straight, as if to defend himself.
"Why do you think, Al? Don't be stupid!" Ed's tone was a little intimidating.
"But brother! What if he came back. What would you do then?" Al's tone was a little hurt.
Ed sighed. "Leave me alone." he said, finally.
Al stood up and walked to the swing, far from his brother.
"Brother can be such a jerk sometimes." he declared, softly, to himself. He got on the swing and forced it to sway back and forth. The movement was weak, and it wasn't rocking as hard as he wanted it to.
He sighed and saw his mom looking out the window, at him. A small smile formed on his face and it grew when she waved at him. He laughed and waved back.
A few minutes later, Al saw Ed walking towards him. He looked down on the ground and tried forcing the swing to rock back and forth again. Edward stopped a few feet away from Al and was wearing a frown on his face. Al looked up at him with a blank expression on.
The wind blew harder, causing the swing to sway just a little more.
Al sighed again. "Brother, seriously. What would you do if Dad came back?"
Ed hadn't replied so quickly. "I don't hate him. I don't know him that well. But he ditched us. He isn't coming back, Al. He isn't."
A long silence had occurred between them. Then, Ed walked towards Al and pushed the swing, making it go really high.
Al smiled in amazement, unaware that a simple swing like theirs could go so high. He continued to swing on it.
Edward's eyes followed the movement of the swing. He smiled and started laughing, along with his brother. His smile would grow larger when he heard his younger brother's squeals of laughter each time the swing reached it's peak.
Ed's eyes continued to follow the swing going back and forth as his brother yelled, "Look Ed, I can go higher!"
His smile continued to grow and grow..
Until his little brother swung himself inches off the swing and into the air, as if it were all in slow motion.
