Forever and always at heart

The fresh spring breeze rustles through the cherry blossom. Their delicate petals that once stood so proud now lie down, carpeting the moist ground. Tree's stand on guard, bordering the cemetery. Protecting the sacred area within from the modern world beyond.

Gravestones mark fallen heroes. Each one engraved with just a few words. It doesn't seem enough for a lifetime of love and an eternity of loss. Recent graves lay fresh and neat, their pristine marble so clean. Flowers rest in beauty, a sign of love and eternal sorrow. But the older ones lie neglected in piece. Their honouree words now un-readable, no flowers left the weeds grow freely. Sad really, that that's how we'll all end up.

In the far corner stands a man. His face a portrait of guilt, love, regret. Roughly he runs his hand through his white marine hair. Bellow lays a woman whom everyone knew of, but few truly knew. She'd sat so high, ruled her empire with pride, dedications, and proved she could. For she was young, successful, beautiful. She'd gotten her wish: made it to the top. Yet paid the price with her life. Now, standing over her, he couldn't help but wonder what could have been.

Her success and achievements
will be remembered by all…
A fearless leader, respected
by all whom worked with her…

Semper Fi

It seemed so little to him. For all that she was, all that she'd bee and done, to be remembered by one, two, three…fifteen words. None of which portrayed her. Not the real her. In reality she wasn't the hard asses, ice cold, 'fearless leader' she was known for being. At heart she was a young, loving, adventurous woman. Who wanted nothing more than to be loved.

The usually hard 'silver fox' couldn't talk today. Because what can you say to make up for a lifetime of missed chances, and lost opportunities. So for today he says just a few words, 'cause then he'll go. Do what she used to pay him for. But he'll comeback, and maybe talk mot next time. But just for today he'll leave it with: "I love you Jen, forever and always…"
