"I am truly sorry."
Dr. Marcoh had broken the silence between the two as those four words had confirmed the suspicions that Roy had held seeing as darkness still shielded his view. Closing his eyes as the words sunk in, he was once again reminded of his loss as he could barely tell the difference. If his ears were correct, the stone had not shattered, thus it was still functional. Even worse, there was no rebound. So then why wasn't it working? Opening his eyes, Roy was faced with the bitter reality. "The stone… it should've…"
'But it hadn't.'
Taking in a ragged breath, Roy raised his head toward the direction of Marcoh and hoped they had met eye to eye.
"It's quite alright doctor. I guess the price was much more severe than I had originally thought." Roy ended with a chuckle, trying to alleviate the tension. Perhaps even trying to fool himself that it wasn't that bad. Still, he didn't have to see in order to know that it was obvious his hand was shaking as he ran it through his hair.
"This isn't right, the stone should have worked!"
"Dr. Marcoh,-" 'Please don't remind me.' Sighing inwardly, Roy tried to keep whatever remained of his dignity as the exhaustion was starting to weigh on him. So as he held back his frustration, he said: "As I said, It's alright." After all, if the philosopher's stone couldn't fix his eyesight, nothing could.
