Best. Apartment. Ever.

Summary: What if Castle had witnessed Beckett saying goodbye to her apartment? One-shot.

Disclaimer:Nope, not mine. They belong to AWM and ABC. Just borrowing them for a play-date. They'll be returned unharmed.

Beckett stood in her apartment for the last time as it's owner. Soon it would go on to another, her cousin, Sophia. Yeah, she could come here and visit, but it wouldn't be the same. She knew it,

but it was time to say goodbye, and move on to her new life...with her husband, her... Castle.

She walked around one final time, taking everything in, and then had an idea. She would make her mark in this place, literally. She pulled her pocket knife out and knelt down against a wooden beam. Slowly, and carefully she carved her initials. She was almost done when she heard a familiar voice.

"Got enough room for mine KB?" She jumped slightly, and turned to see her husband, leaning against the door frame. Strike that, her "ruggedly handsome, yet sometimes a nine-year-old-on-a-sugar-rush of a husband."

"Rick? What are you..." She gasped, trying to understand why he was here, and for how long.

Castle shrugged his shoulders and flashed her that not so smug, but loving grin of his. "I kind of figured this is where you might go. Look, Kate, what I said about your apartment...I didn't mean it. I've loved being here, with you. Through everything: the fights, the cases, and especially the loving." There was the smirk...the one that made his face light up with boyish one that made her fall in love with him and did so every time she saw it.

She stood up, closed her knife and walked over to him. "Yeah, it did..um, I was upset. I thought you hated this place." She held a tear back as long as she could but it fell anyway. Rick wiped it off gently, and left his hand on her cheek. She nuzzled into his palm and sighed. "I just, I needed to say goodbye. This place, it's been a huge part of me since I bought it. Josh never liked it. He thought it was run-down. That's WHY I loved it so much. That's why I thought you loved it."

"No Kate, I loved this place because you did. Although it does have its charm too." He pulled her to him and wrapped her in a warm hug, her head slipping under his chin. "Sophia's going to love it too. I've met her one time, but she's a lot like you, KB."

"Yeah, she is. We'll have to come by after she's moved in. But please don't mention some of the things we've done here, Rick." Kate felt a blush creep up as the memories of them together here flooded her memory...handcuffs, pictures, whipped crea..."nope, not going to go there", she thought.

Apparently Rick was thinking of the same things because his grin got bigger and bigger. "Hey, Kate? One more time? For old time's sake?"

Kate looked up at him and smiled. "Yeah, for old time's sake, Rick." She kissed him as he picked her up and headed into what was her bedroom and shut the door.

Later, she'd carve HIS initials under hers too.
