A/N This was a small story idea that began formulating in my brain soon after I reread The Deathly Hallows for the fourth time. I hope you enjoy it. It's a short first chapter, but it will most likely expand. Depends.
This story picks from page 741 of The Deathly Hallows. I do not own Harry Potter. It belongs to JK Rowling and Warner Bros. See my profile for a more official disclaimer.
...three hours ago, and the Elder Wand, the Deathstick, the Wand of Destiny is truly mine! Dumbledore's last plan went wrong, Harry Potter!"
Harry Potter stood there, gazing at Tom Riddles deformed and broken face. They were talking, and Harry felt strong emotions swirl inside of him as he watched Voldemort's shrieking replies. It was pathetic, but Harry hoped, more than anything, that the older man would understand what he was about to say next.
"Yeah, it did," said Harry. "You're right. But before you try to kill me, I'd advise you to think about what you've done...Think, and try for some remorse, Riddle..."
"What is this?"
Of all thing this that Harry had said to him, beyond any revelation or taunt, nothing had shocked Voldemort like this. Harry saw his pupils contract to thin slits, saw the skin around his eyes whiten, and Harry felt a leaping jump in his stomach when he realized that Voldemort wouldn't possibly take his offer. But he continued on, the last of his hopes draining as he saw the eyes narrowing in anger again.
"It's your one last chance," said Harry, "it's all you've got left...I've seen what you'll be otherwise...Be a man...try...Try for some remorse..."
"You dare-- ?" said Voldemort again.
"Yes, I dare," said Harry, "because Dumbledore's last plan hasn't backfired on me at all. It's backfired on you, Riddle."
Voldemort's hand was trembling on the Elder Wand, and Harry gripped Draco's very tightly. The moment, he knew, was seconds away. He saw Tom Riddle open his mouth, to curse him? Kill him? Harry had already started to open his mouth to counteract...
"Yes."
A/N: After I posted this, a couple other stories with a similar idea, and I urge you to check them out. Both of them are funny, interesting, and much better written than mine. Pyrocrastinator has one which I think is a very realistic take on it, and a more parody version that I really like by Can't Stand Deathly Hallows.
