A man with striking blue eyes, raven hair, and handsome face sat on a rocky outcrop. This man's protection from the nights chill was a well used coat from World War II. The sight before him was breathtaking; the sky was a deep plum with the first signs of stars, the meadow below swayed softly in the breeze and seemed to glow in the twilight, the lake to the north resembled black glass, and fire fly-like creatures created a light show with every color of the rainbow.
This mysterious man sat in silence, reminiscing about the past nine months. Tragedy had struck him from all sides; he'd lost a man who he loved deeply and his own grandson to the curse of mortality, he lost his daughter because he had sacrificed his grandchild to save humanity, and he had to live with his actions for all of eternity because he could never die.
As the twin moons rose and the stars glittered like diamonds, the man stood and took one last look at the beautiful sight before him. This place in all its beauty could never compare to the home he had found on Earth; he mourned that loss as well, because he feared he would never be able to step foot on the planet again, it was just too small to escape his past. As this man turned and walked away from the outcrop a single tear slid down his cheek; Captain Jack Harkness made a sudden realization, this whole universe was too small to run away from his past.
With this newly found knowledge Jack made the decision to do something constructive with his life. He could run for awhile, but not for an eternity; so one day he would go back to Earth because those who he left behind need him.
A/N: Review, and tell me what was good and what needs fixed. Thanks.
