Bird Watching
"There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you!" Theodore stopped, staring at the person he'd been searching for. "What are you doing?"
Draco was leaning against a window, his head tilted to the side, as if the object he was trying to see was not quite in view. He was holding omnioculars, though he was not currently looking through them.
Theodore tried again to grab his attention, only to be ignored as Draco's glance went back to the omnioculars. He called again, but Draco shushed him, a frustrated scowl overcoming his features as he looked out the window again.
Stepping quietly, Theodore came up behind his friend and peered over his shoulder.
"What are you looking at?"
Draco snapped straight and turned from the window with a huff, "Nothing."
Amused but not convinced, Theodore tried to figure out what had captured Draco's attention. The view from the window was of a small courtyard, behind which stood a wing of the castle and beyond that, the Forbidden Forest could just be seen. The courtyard was deserted, the trees of the Dark Forest stood stolidly as ever, and Theodore could see nothing of interest in the many windows which graced the opposite wall.
"So, what were you doing?" Theodore asked, crossing the room to follow the other boy out the door.
"I was looking for a very rare bird." Draco said carefully.
"What class?"
"Care of Magical Creatures."
"Hang on." Theodore grabbed his shoulder, "You don't take that class anymore. Not since that incident…"
"With the Hippogriff. Yes, thank you for bringing up that painful experience yet again." Draco said irately, pulling his arm away from his housemate and continuing down the corridor. "I won't go to class as long as that oaf is still the teacher."
"But then… how?"
"Mother insists I round out my education." Draco said snidely, "She's asked the teachers to make a curriculum for me to follow. Hence, the bird watching."
They travelled in silence for a while, until Theodore spoke up again, as they came to a landing.
"Did you find it, then? This very rare bird?"
Draco stared down over the balcony, at all of the masses of students going about their daily routines, and smiled as he picked out a specific head of hair. He gripped the omnioculars in his hand and walked forward down the staircase.
"Yes, I did."
The End
"So what was it?"
"What?"
"The bird you were looking for?"
"Hermionous conscientiae. I doubt you've heard of it."
Theodore mouthed the words a couple of times, then shrugged.
"Oi, hang on! That window faced the library!"
