This fic is for Esmerelda Diana Parker because it's her birthday! Or it was yesterday. Happy Birthday!
Jenny stormed down the main hallway of the ARC, her black heels clicked across the granite floor, shattering the unusual silence. There she was, working late, once again, because the rest of the PR team were seemingly incapable of silencing an amateur reporter. Why Lester bothered hiring them, she'd never understand.
"You," she clicked her fingers at an assistant about to go home, "Go get the reporter claiming she has pictures. Pronto." No more Miss-Nice-Lewis. The assistant practically dropped his briefcase and ran out of the room, jittery as anything. Jenny sat herself on an office chair across from another and steepled her fingers and recited the internet headline; 'A new reporter, hot on the case of a government coverup?' Google had stated. Not on my watch, Jenny thought as a young woman entered the room.
"What you saw was a highly intelligent robot." She tried. The reporter placed her hands on the table, and put on a condescending expression.
"Why do I find that extremely hard to believe? Anyway, I didn't see this 'robot'." Jenny froze for a second, clenching her fists in annoyance before replying in an equally icy tone.
"What's your name?"
"Oh no you don't. If I give you my name, it gives you just a little bit of control over me. But I will allow you my pen name," A small laugh played across the reporter's face, "Parker. Like the pen. It's my pen name?"
Jenny was unfazed by Parker's humour, instead giving her a bored look and folding her arms.
"Now, we can do this the easy way or the hard way, Parker. You can tell me what you saw, hand over these alleged photos and sign a confidentiality agreement and-"
"Nuh-uh. This is going global. This is massive, the English government has been covering up a scientific discovery, as well as using the military for personal needs?" Jenny's memory flicked back to the last reporter who had tried to uncover the anomalies and ended up dead, along with his boss.
"The hard way then?" Jenny clicked her fingers again; a tall soldier grabbed Parker's arms, and yanked her out of the room. At that moment, Jenny collapsed onto the desk, exhausted from a day's work, and irritated by a reporter. But she'd won overall. The ARC always won.
