Cassie shifted in the uncomfortable chairs they had in the Med Bay. You think since they could afford the Watch Tower and all the fancy toys it held that they could provide something other than plastic for people to wait in. She tried a few different positions until settling for leaning back into it. She winced at the noise the chair produced; a sound very similar to metal giving away.
Her foot tapped against the floor, keeping the silence away. Her eyes drifted around the room until they settled for following the hands of the old fashioned clock on the wall. She should be having dinner by now, but her appetite has long since gone.
Movement coming from the bed caused her to jump on her feet. She wanted to walk over to the edge of the bed. She wanted to wrap her arms around him. She wanted to do anything other than stay standing their like a statue.
A hand lifting up forced her to move again. In a second she was leaning over Jaime, one hand clutching the blankets and one hand unsurely hovering in the air. Jaime had his eyebrows furrowed above his closed eyes. The hand he lifted had fallen back down on his stomach.
Undoubtedly the scarab was reminding him of what happened. Cassie felt tears spring into her eyes as she recalled the apartment building crumbling on top of him. It was supposed to be a simple mission to help a few people caught in a fire. But of course he had to be a hero and go back in for a little girl's doll.
Jaime wet his lips and cleared his throat, signaling that he was about to speak. "That was stupid."
"Yes it was," Cassie agreed. She used the heel of her palm to catch the traitor tears that leaked out of the corner of her eyes. "Never do that again."
"I promise." He took her hand in his and watched their fingers intertwine.
She leaned down and gently pressed her lips against his cheek, mindful of the bruise blooming on his cheek bone. Jaime turned his head in time to brush his on lips against her cheek. She moved in for a kiss, but stopped when she noted the split on his upper lip.
"Did I at least get the doll?" He asked, bleary eyes seeking hers.
"Yeah. You did."
