It had been raining for the past five days now. Which was strange, since Berk never got many rainstorms; only blizzards and hailstorms. But it was a somewhat nice climate change, and Hiccup was not one to complain. Besides, it was fun to watch his obnoxious cousin Snotlout slip and fall into muddy puddles on the sidewalks. The lanky brunet carried his jet black umbrella above his head, walking slowly along the sidewalk, on his way to school. His shoes made an occasional slop! sound whenever he stepped into a small puddle as he continued to stroll on forward.

The teen was glad it wasn't winter yet, or else it would have been snowing, and the small city got enough of that kind of weather far too many times. He sighed tiredly, fixing the strap on his olive green book bag that was hanging on his shoulder. The boy wasn't in a hurry to get to class; not at all. He had time to get to the academy, and he wasn't excited to be greeted with the snarky comments and sarcastic remarks and taunts from his classmates. These were all things he was used to and could handle, but nevertheless, he loathed it.

Being a straight-A student didn't exactly get him a free ticket to Nobody-Hates-Me-Ville. He had gained a little popularity since the first day of his sophomore year, so he wasn't invisible anymore. But he couldn't help but think that that only made things worse. People expected a lot from him, and if he messed up, he couldn't just slither away unnoticed.

Suddenly a faint slop slip slop! noise that was gradually growing louder, cut his thoughts short. Hiccup turned to face the source of the noise. A nearly soaking wet Astrid Hofferson ran through the rain in a hurry, her blonde, damp bangs sticking to her face. Her blue eyes looked up as she stopped, and noticed Hiccup.

The brunet froze in place. Astrid's hypnotizing blue eyes were mostly the reason his feet seemed glued to the concrete. Finally, he gathered his wits again and put a shy hand up. "Hi," he greeted in his normal, nasally voice.

"Hey," Astrid offered a slight smile. "Do you mind if I–?" she took a step toward the other, asking for permission to shelter under the boy's umbrella.

"Oh, uh, no. I mean– yes. I mean– Ah, i–it's fine," he nodded, shielding the blonde girl from the rain to keep her from soaking herself any further.

"Thanks."

"N–No, problem."

And they walked to school in a comfortable silence, the green-eyed boy blushing feverishly almost the whole way.

This is my first story, ehe. I wasn't too sure what to write so I kind of just tried my hand at a little Hiccstrid thing because I love HtTYD so much. I hope you guys like it. I know it's not all that, but still. And I might add to this. It was originally meant to be a drabble, but i decided it might be best to make it a longer story u/u
