At twenty-five years old, Ema Skye is a dark thunderstorm of rage; rambunctious and uncontrollable. She is bitter; she is stormy skies and dark clouds, and she exudes the foreboding sense of a rather violent storm that still has yet to arrive.

. . .

At fourteen, Ema is broken and scarred. She is the unstable jar shattered into a thousand tiny pieces, with no hope of being whole again. She shivers - there is no blanket, no barrier to shelter her from the booming thunder of her vivid nightmares. No defense against the icy lightning that is the glare of her own sister.

At sixteen, Ema is a sun shower. It's still pouring rain, it's still cold - but the bright redemption of sunlight nonetheless shines through its obstacles.

At eighteen, Ema is all sunshine and rainbows. The formerly overcast skies have made way for the light of a healing sun, and she welcomes her sister back with open arms.

... But then she gets sun-burnt. And soon afterwards, the hurricanes come back.

. . .

So, at twenty-six years old, Ema Skye is already quite accustomed to the roar of thunder; the darkness of the storm. The bitter sensation of raindrops pounding against steel-hardened skin only hasten her impatient temperament. She summons a barrier of cumulonimbi to shelter her from her failures; her inability to embrace the sun. She effortlessly weaves the biting lightning of her sister's trademark glare and the icy hailstorm of sarcastic threats together to create the resentful woman that Ema is now.

But only mention one word, and the sun will rise, and Ema will don a smile so bright; it carries the same amount of warmth and light as that flaming sphere of hydrogen gas, miles and miles away.

Only say the word "science," and the wind will push the stormy skies and dark clouds behind her, retreating back into her thundering past, only to reveal that-

the sun has been shining on behind them all along, and

she doesn't have to burn anymore under the harsh, unforgiving sunlight, because-

she's not alone anymore.

(it's the dawn of a new day, and ema skye cannot wait to rise from the ashes of her shadowed past.)
