Not like this
Written April 30th, 2013 - Revised September 3rd, 2014
It shouldn't be this way.
The thought echoes in the darkness of his room. It breaks the silence, filling his mind; it throbs with his wounds, where his hand has shattered the cup to pieces.
He cannot think of anything else, as the mixture of blood and hot coffee drips on the ground. He repeats the sound of the tears he no longer has. It is just wrong, all wrong.
Long minutes pass before he can feel his own hands running in his hair. Tomorrow will be a tough day; he should be sleeping. He still sits on the edge of his bed, with a blank stare.
He does not know how he will defend Maya. He has no idea what his future will be like. All he can focus on is that this cannot be happening.
When he wakes up tomorrow, things will not change. This is not a dream.
In the dark, the hole grows in his chest. He will find the same hole by his side, in court, tomorrow.

His life has all gone wrong. It had never hit him before, not like this – not before that person came back.
The feeling is new, strangely familiar and unstoppable. The disappointment, so deep, towards all he has been up to now. The need to change, the need to die.
He loses sleep and peace, he is furious. Nothing should be like this. But nothing stops being wrong, not by itself. So he shoots the prosecutor, in a silent afternoon – he watches him fall, and tries to start living anew.

Company, love and friendship; everyone should have at least one of these things. She cringes and sits, for years, as the lights in her life go out one by one.
It is terrible, but she cannot stop it. She feels useless and weak – so childish, so inept. So immature. She looks at his friendly face, the spiky hair, all she has left.
She would give anything not to be herself. She couldn't save anyone.
She regrets ever being born.

Stop being foolish, stop the mistakes. Well – insulting herself is not as effective as she had hoped.
Every drop on the ground is a glare from her father. Every tear is a defeat.
She is making countless mistakes. It shouldn't be right to feel so free afterwards.

And Mr. Nick and Maya are not married yet. She has even stopped counting the days. She can't help bursting in tears, all alone on the wooden floor of her room.
It is not fair. In the end, no man is ever fair to his sweetheart. Nobody is happy in this world.

Iris has always been silent. She has chosen to watch, to fight te past every day. Still, it doesn't take a genius to understand her sister is not innocent at all. She wondered from the start; she froze when the first person died.
Then again, she has to seek strength somewhere. And Dahlia is so smart and graceful that, sometimes, she almost believes it – it will be all right.
*
She has to fight hard to keep her mouth shut. The sight of her daughter fills her heart and mind – a mother's love is a raw force of nature.
It is so wrong, what destiny has done to her. But she has faith and stays strong. Soon, everything will change – very soon.

And one fateful day, if tired and heartbroken, they are all bound by the same truth. When the three days come to an end, the truth has already been forced in their memories.
None of them is the person they wanted to become. They look in the mirror, tired, and find someone different looking back. They ended up so far from the plans they used to have for themselves.
But all they need to know tonight, in their small reunion, is that they are still there and close.
Human beings die fast. Even if in the way life asks you to, it feels much better to be alive.
Fill for an Ace Attorney prompt I asked to my friend iturbide. She came up with this fantastic prompt - it shouldn't be this way. It was wonderful to write this little homage, dear! I hope you enjoy it. :3
