I stared in disbelief. I ran to his body and pressed my head to his flank. I cried uncontrolbly. My mother ,Gingertail, tried to pull me away. "I'm not going to leave him!" I yowled. I looked into her icy blue gaze. "But Icepaw y_" "NO" I screeched cutting her off. All of a sudden Firestar ran out of his den. When he saw lightningpaw his eyes clouded with grief. "What happened?" He mewed softly. I looked at him. "I wish I knew" I meowed. " I know Firestar." The mew had come from Cinderpelt, Thunderclans medicene cat. "Lightningpaw was out hunting and came back like this..." She nodded towards the bloody unmoving body. "I rushed over and asked what had happened. He kept repeating Badger. I started to carry him off to my den...but it was too late." The light in her eye faded and she slumped to the ground with her head on her paws. " Thank you Cinderpelt. Now I shall sit the silent vigil with him. We shall bury him in the morning." The cats came up to Lightningpaw and shared tougnes with him for the last time. When I came up I licked his wounds and then his head. "I will always love you" I whispered in his ear "Always"
