Okay. So that was. Wow.
Jane. And Bing. Kissing.
Unashamed.
Wow.
Well, I guess they worked it out. That's wonderful for them. I really hope they can do it. If anyone could, it'd be those two. Match made in heaven. I swear, they never think about themselves.
Except, I guess, right now.
And that's perfect. Really, really perfect.
I guess I'll leave them alone for a while, camera on or not. It's not looking like they'll care, lost as they are in each other's eyes.
They'll probably go on and get married, have the 2.5 children, get a dog. Oh, great, I'm starting to sound like my mother.
Ding, dong! Our doorbell snapped me out of my wondering. I quickly changed direction from upstairs to entryway, passing the many pictures of handsome eligible bachelors on our walls, and cringed. I hope it's not a stranger.
Wait. Who the heck could they even be there? The only visitor we've even gotten these past few weeks has been Bing, every night. Who else would co- Oh.
Darcy stared back at me from the other side of the ajar door, posture as awkward and uncomfortable as it has ever been. He looked out of place, and squirmed while I suddenly remembered words.
"Darcy! What- What are you doing here?" I managed to get out before wincing at my lack of manners.
He shifted again, mouth opening to speak, but I cut him off. "I mean, come right in!"
I turned to allow his frame passage and was rewarded with a few steps inside. The door swung shut behind him, making a bit of a clang. Darcy's eyes fixed on me, and I suddenly found it very hard to breathe. The silence was cut short as my unruly mouth thought it high time again to speak up. "Okay. What ARE you doing here?"
"Well, Lizzie, I-
"Is it about my program? Because I've already talked it over with my staff supervisor, and I'm really sorry, but I just hadn't even thought about talking to you."
The corners of Darcy's face wrinkled in amusement. "No, Lizzie. That's not why I came here today." He paused, making sure I was listening. "Lizzie, I- I wanted to see you."
"Uh, why?"
His composure faltered for a bit as he found the right words. "To- to check up on you, of course. You must have dealt with quite a bit of stress after that upsetting news ."
Ignoring my fluttering stomach, I let my eyes soften. "Thank you. I'm fine, really. It's been a bit of a roller-coaster, but, well, you've probably seen the videos."
"Yes, I have, and I commend your strength. It's a difficult position, comforting one going through such hardship."
I put my weight on my other foot, leaning against the wall. "Well, it wasn't a piece of cake, but I think it's all going to work out. " My attention shifted to the other room, and the pieces fell into place. "Mister William Darcy, you are responsible for Bing, aren't you?"
Darcy's face grew into one of consternation.
"It was my doing that separated them. I thought it only fair." He looked distressed by this failing, a sight that poked at my stomach.
My hand reached out unconsciously for his, and I felt it loosely grip back.
"Hey, now. You only did what you thought was right. I probably, stupidly, would have done the same thing."
My forgiveness and bad humor put the tiniest of smiles on his face. "Thank you, Lizzie." Our eyes connected, and I could feel my face heat minutely.
As all awkward and lovely things, the moment ended abruptly, with a ring from Darcy's phone. Pulling his hand from mine, he apologetically grimaced. "You must excuse me, I forgot how little time I had to spend with you. I'm glad you're alright, Lizzie, but I must be going."
I watched him put the phone to his ear, the feeling that my whole life just became unfinished and complicated filling my body as the door swung shut.
