The Only Exception

You were the only exception Johnnycakes, everyone else had to go through barriers of hatred and mistrust but never you my dear. I could never in a million years even think about hurting you, I would ask Darry to kill me before I can hurt you. Do you know how many times I wanted to kill your old man and you stupid mother? How many times Darry, Two-Bit, Soda, and Steve had to hold me back?

I wanted to hurt them like they have hurt you Johnny, so many times I have seen the fear and mistrust in your eyes and I wanted to KILL whoever even thought about hurting you. I always felt guilty even though I never showed it that I couldn't protect you, the only thing I had to love.

When you went in to save those kids in that fire in the church I felt proud that you were so brave and bold, but I also felt hate and anger. It was those damn kids fault that you were hurt and how much I wanted to strangle those snobby shits and do even worse things to them. I visited you everyday or when I could to make sure that you were going to love because if you died them I would have died along with you, simple as that. I know what your going to say Johnnycakes,

'I'm not worth it Dally, please don't do that', but Johnny even I have a breaking point, you.

I wouldn't know what to do if you die, my heart would probably break down and stop working because I would want to die too, just to be with you.
