Another Harry/Dean oneshot. This is set just before the boys go off to find Lucifer so Sam could say yes.
I don't own Harry Potter or Supernatural
"You ever think about trying for normal?" The question sounded idle enough and Sam was not looking at Harry when he asked it.
"Normal?" Harry repeated, a frown forming on his face.
"A normal life," Sam clarified.
Harry's frown only deepened. "Even in the wizarding world, I've never been normal." Harry paused, studied Sam a moment. "Why?"
"I thought it was something to think about," Sam said, meeting Harry's gaze.
"You mean for after…" And that wasn't really a question. He knew where this conversation was heading and he shifted in his seat, wondered if Sam was going to try and get a promise out of him that he wasn't sure he could keep.
"You know I can't make him do something he doesn't want to," Harry stated. He'd never been able to.
"And something he does want?" Sam asked with a raised eyebrow.
Harry only shook his head. He knew what Sam was talking about, knew that Sam was most likely right. Dean did want that…normal. Harry had been seeing that more and more since Cas had brought him back.
The problem, of course, was that Sam was talking about after and whatever Dean wanted now, Harry was completely unsure of what he would want then.
Harry had known Dean and Sam for years. He'd seen how both of them acted when they lost the other. He had been there when Sam had died the first time. It had been brief then but long enough to be burned into Harry's memory for the rest of his life.
There was a look in Sam's eye that Harry had seen on several occasions since he'd met the man, that look that made Harry wonder if Sam was reading his mind before he realized that this was Dean. Nobody knew Dean as well as Sam.
"I'm not gonna make you guarantee something. But I am going to ask you to try." He paused, let out a sigh. "You guys could try and be happy." Harry couldn't help himself. He snorted at the very thought of Dean ever being really happy while Sam was in Hell. That look came back in Sam's eyes.
"You could try," he said. Harry was silent for a minute.
"I guess I could," he finally answered. He probably would have said it, even if he were lying, to see Sam relax that little bit from at least one weight lifting itself from his shoulders.
