Hi, so this story is for a challenge by Maisie Malfoy. This prompt was about wand cores. I hope you all enjoy it.
I walked through the streets of diagon alley, my gaze searching. Once I spotted my destination I jumped into the air gleefully.
"Dad, I can't believe I'm really here. I can't believe it's time." My father chuckled and gave me a small smile.
"Where do you get that energy? I know it's not from me. But I understand, getting your first wand is a big milestone for every witch and wizard."
"Come on let's go already, we don't have all day." Came the voice of my very grumpy twin sister.
"What you're not excited even a little bit?"
"Not really. A wand is a wand." I let out a gasp.
"A wand is a tool an instrument. A beautiful piece of art. No wand is the same. The wand chooses the owner, it is an honor."
"Really Nikk," She started as she rolled her eyes. "That's what you're going with, it's an honor?"
"Okay so I over exaggerated, at least I'm acknowledging the fact that I am about to get my first wand."
"Girls that's enough. Do you want your wands or not?" I suddenly perked back up, ready for the adventure.
We approached the shop, the sign read Ollivanders. We walked in and were greeted with the smell of dust and wood. A old man stood behind the counter.
"Ah, Mr. Lawson. These must be your lovely daughters."
"That they are. The excited one is Nikki, and the grumpy one is Jane."
"Well then, Nikki wait here a moment I will be right back." A minute later he came out with a box. He gingerly opened it, and slowly pulled out a very beautiful wand. The wand was made of a stunning Aspen wood. It seemed to be at least 12 inches long.
I had always been fascinated with wands and how and what they are made of.
The old man then handed me the wand.
"Give it a wave." They all stared at me expectantly. I slowly lifted the wand and gave a small swish. The tip began to glow, and everyone held their breath.
"I believe," began the old man. "That is the wand. Remarkable really hardly anyone gets it on the first try. Truly you should be honored." I turned and gave a small 'I told you so smile' to Jane. She rolled her eyes, but smiled back.
The old man turned to go get a wand for Jane, but I stopped him.
"Sir what core is it?" He turned back around.
"I think you already know." He gave me a small wink, then walked away towards the back. I smiled to myself, Dragon Heartstring, with a personality like mine it was no surprise.
