A/N: This is my first Newsies fanfiction, so I hope you enjoy! I really liked writing this! :)
Mary Bernadette Caitlin Isabelle Sullivan was beautiful. It was always the first and the last thing noticed about her. She had long, flowing, red locks, curly to just the slightest degree. her eyes were the color of emeralds, sometimes known to change color when she changed her moods. She was petite, busty, and more than anything else, feirce. She got what she wanted, no matter the cost. And what she wanted? Why, that was to go to Manhattan (A/N- because that's where her long-lost brother, Jack Kelly, lived. Now the last name makes sense, right?;)
And so she boreded a train from Santa Fe to Manhattan (she had moved to Santa Fe by herself when she was 8-years-old, bravely facing teh cold of winter and the hot of summer all by her lonesome.) And when she stopped off on the train platform (A/N- I don't know what it's called, but you guys know which one I'm talking about) she knew that she would find her brother. She had intuition like that.
But why did Mary Bernadette Caitlin Isabelle Sullivan want to find her brother? Even she didn't know the answer to that question (A/N- because you'll find out in a couple more chapters!) All she knew was that she was compelled to go to New York, and so she did.
"Oh, excuse me," she murmured to a newsboy, who was selling his papes. "It's no problem," he replied, grinning at her, taking the cigar out of his mouth. "Well, ain't you lovely? My name's Anthony Higgns, but everyone calls me Racetrack. Whats your name, beautiful?" "I don't tell my name to strangers," Mary huffed, making a little 'tsk' noise in the back of her throat. Even though he was handsome, and she wouldn't mind telling him.
But no. Mary had one saying that she lived by. never fall in love. And she wouldnt.
"Do you know where the Duane Street lodging house is?" she asked instead, the name popping out of her at random— but she knew that's where her brother was. "Yeah, I live there," Racetrack answered, "though they don't normally take girls." "Oh, they'll take me," Mary replied. Because of course they would.
And they did.
A/N- Okay you guys, that was chapter 1. I hope you all enjoyed that! Remember to read and review, please! Also, favorites would be nice! Thank you! New chapters come out soon, promise.
