This is my first story ever written and I hope you enjoy it. Please give me your comments and suggestions. Thanks.
In the Beginning
Vanguard… Vanguard is a card game, slowly becoming popular throughout the world. These days, people can be seen playing this game. Young, old, boys, girls… Just about everyone these days is either friends with a player, or a player in their own right.
Our story begins in Japan where a young man in his teens has just moved into Tokyo, Japan. His name is Renji Jameson. He had brown eyes and short black hair, uncombed and yet straight. On this particular day, he wandered around town looking for something to do since his new school has just ended the day's schedule a few hours earlier.
Walking around, he saw a familiar looking boy with the same gray uniform he was wearing. The kid had long blue hair and seemed to be distressed and in a hurry to go somewhere. "Hey, that kid seems like he goes to my school…" That was when Renji realized that this particular kid was his classmate, Aichi Sendou. And from what he could see, it seemed like Aichi was roughed up, pretty bad. "He looks like he could use some help", he thought, before heading on after Aichi.
After tailing Aichi for a while, they both arrived at a small shop near their school. Aichi ran on inside just as Renji turned the corner leading to the store. "Card Capital, huh. Seems familiar," Renji thought before heading on inside…to hear Aichi and another person say "…Vanguard!".
As Renji moved up to the table of Aichi and the other player, he saw on the table two face up cards. One was called Lizard Runner, Undeux, another, Stardust Trumpeter. "Vanguard. Haven't played that in along time,".
"Renji?" Aichi asked. "What are you doing here?". Renji looked away from the cards and at Aichi before speaking. "I saw you earlier. You looked as though you needed some help."
"Are you ready?" another player asked Aichi. Renji looked at him and saw Aichi's opponent. He had brown hair and green eyes. His uniform was that of a different school. He looked older than either Renji or Aichi.
"Who are you, exactly?" Renji asked. "My name is Toshiki Kai. I've been looking for players to fight. I want to fight the best, but it seems none of these guys are."
"Really? Kind of a big thing to say," Renji thought as the match went on.
Time passed, and as the fight carried out, Renji saw how Kai nearly ended the game, while Aichi barely hung on with that last heal trigger.
"Blaster Blade, attack!"…"Damage check… No trigger…"
"Whoa. Aichi's not bad," Renji thought, before noticing behind him, Katsumi Morikawa and Izaki Yuta, two more of his classmates, behind him, leaving. Morikawa though, looked like a mix of surprised and angry. "Strange. I can't help but feel like I've seen this all before," Renji thought, before leaving the shop to head on home.
When he got back, he greeted his parents and went on ahead to his room. He went to his closet and looked for a small box he got from his uncle. What he saw inside was a deck of cards. Vanguard cards.
"Sure as heck haven't used these in a while,". As he looked through the cards, he remembered how him and his friends would use to fight every day after school back in America. "I knew those cards looked familiar," Renji thought as he looked through the cards his uncle gave him years ago.
