There Will Always Be Love

Dear Diary,
As I write this, images of war flicker on the Muggle television in my house. Great Britain is helping the United States to fight the war on terrorism. I can't help but be mesmerized by the Muggle planes flying through the air. One of our planes probably holds one of my friends. Neville Longbottom is a pilot in the wizarding division of the Royal Air Force. Or should I say, "Sergeant Longbottom." His wife Ginny owled us the other day to tell us about his promotion. Who'd think that a boy who could barely control a broom would turn into one of Britain's greatest flyers? (But only Muggle planes; he admits he's still hopeless on a broom!)
Why is the world joining together to attack an impoverished country in the Middle East? Well, for the same reason I fought Lord Voldemort: there was an evil present which needed to be eradicated.
Isn't that how it has always been? Salazar Slytherin sought to "purify" the wizarding world. Blackbeard terrorized the high seas in pursuit of wealth. Adolf Hitler wanted to form a "master race." Lord Voldemort tried to dominate the wizarding world. Now, Osama Bin Laden wants to destroy the United States and the Western way of life.
Wizard or Muggle, there is always a dark lord.
Each of the men (although I hesitate to call them that) I have named was the embodiment of terror and evil for his time. Each one seems more ruthless and terrifying than the last.
It never seems to be over. Every time one monster is destroyed, the Devil finds a new servant to do his dirty work.
So, there must always be "heroes."
People call me a hero. I don't think I am. I simply did what I had to do...what only I *could* do. I couldn't just sit there and let evil win, and so....
That doesn't make me a hero. I like to think...it just makes me a man. In my eyes, the world only had one true Hero...but we nailed Him to a tree. I guess you could say I just tried to help with His work.
People have asked me if I would face down another dark lord. If I needed to, I would do it in a heartbeat. If I had to do it...to protect Hermione. That certainly doesn't make me a hero. It makes me a husband who loves his wife. I would die to protect my 'Mione if I had to; why wouldn't I face a dark lord?
Someone once said that as long as there are villains, there will have to be heroes. I see things a little differently: as long as there are villains, there are those who love enough to sacrifice ourselves. When I look at my wife, I count myself in that number.
Love conquers all, even a dark lord. And there will always be love.
