Title: The Black Butterfly

Chapter: Prologue

Chapter Title: The Camera Obscura

Disclaimer: I don't own Fatal Frame, and it terrifies the crap out of me, but I am obsessed with it. Also, I want to write about it. I also never played. But my frends do. So I watch.

Rating: I rated the story PG-13 because of some horror, and blood and stuff like that.

"…And that's the story, Chou. Now please go to bed…"

I looked at my mother, watching my little sister grip her comforter to her face, a horrified expression crossing it.

"That's so scary…do you still have the camera?" She looked so interested, but I was so bored with this stupid story.

"Oh please Chou…it's a story…its fake…" I rolled my eyes, turning over and looking at the sliding door. My sister glared.

"Mayoke! You're so mean to me! It's true! I know it is!" She continued her glare, and lay down on her bed. She looked at my mother with a frown. "Mommy…It's true isn't it?" My mother didn't smile. She looked actually scared. I had to turn my head to look at her, because of her silence. Something about that silence startled me. Why didn't she speak? Was the story true…No! -It wasn't.

"Look Chou, can please go to bed? For goodness sake…" I rolled to look at her. My mother looked at me.

"Mayoke…please come with me…" She turned and head out of the room. I stood, and followed her out. She walked into her room, and to her closet. She opened it, and took out a box. It was covered in dust. I looked at her, and walked over to the box. I was about to open it, when she grabbed me by the shoulders, and looked into my eyes. This scared me.

"Mayoke…Do you know what that is?"

"…A box…"

"In the box, Mayoke."

"No…"

"It's the Camera Obscura."

"Oh please mom! That's a legend! It's not real!"

"I'll prove to you it's real…" As she said this, she pulled out an old looking camera. It was dusty. There were a few books inside the box too. I picked one up, and opened it. As soon as I saw what it was, I threw the book on the floor.

"What the heck was that!?"

"What?"

"That…that picture. There was some face on it..."

"Hm?" She picked up the book, and opened it. She winced as she saw the picture. "That poor woman…killed by her boyfriends spirit…I took that picture…"

"What?"

"Mayoke…Your aunt and I…were lost in a village when we were about 17. It was always dark, and I only had this camera, and a flashlight…there were ghosts everywhere, trying to kill Mayu and me. They actually took Mayu eventually. The only way I could banish the ghosts was by taking their picture. Mayoke…never venture off into the woods. And don't let Chou either. Mayoke…should you ever stumble upon a vengeful ghost, you take their picture…and they will leave." Officially creped out, I took the book from her, and looked inside of it. There were angry ghosts picture after picture after picture. There was a man holding a torch, a man holding a sickle, a woman crawling on her back, a broken neck woman, and many more. I got goose bumps. Could these be real? Could my mother of been in such a predicament that she could have been killed, and that Chou nor I would have been born? And Aunt Mayu, with her limp! She was caught and could have been killed. But was it really true…?

"Mom…why haven't you told me sooner about this? Was that ritual real?"

"Yes Mayoke…It was."

"SEE I TOLD YOU!!!" My mother and I wheeled around to see my little sister standing at the doorway, tears running down her face.
