Hey my peoples! So I seriously can't sleep, so I've decided to write a short story about Pippin and Merry during their journey with Frodo. This takes place before the breaking of the fellowship near the Great River, and I wanted to practice writing the resisting of the call in the hero's journey. I hope you like it!

One Step at a Time

"Merry! Merry!" Pippin whispered urgently through the silence of the night, desperately trying to wake up his friend. Merry sat up and rubbed his eyes. It was the tenth day of their journey and they were by the great river. "It's the middle of the night! What's troubling you Pip?" Pippin looked behind them and then turned his face to look back into Merry's heavy eyes.

"Now's our chance! We can go back home… to the Shire. We can go back to having second breakfast, tea time, luncheon, dinner, supper… we could go home." Merry started to laugh. "You're always thinking with your stomach! You know, sometimes having less food and walking all day can get us in better shape." Pippin dropped his head as a tear fell to the ground.

"Cheer up Pip! you know we can't leave Frodo!" Merry began to rub Pippin's back. "We're strong Pippin. I promise we will go home to the Shire when the time comes, but for now, it's our duty to stick by Frodo no matter what happens!" Pippin looked up to Merry with his tear stained face and looked back to the ground. "I don't understand! It's not our burden to bear! I just want to go home!" When pippin again turned to see Merry, he was carrying an apple. Merry placed the apple in Pippin's hand and smiled. "We can do this Pip. One step at a time." Pippin took the apple and couldn't help but embrace Merry, and he repeated, "one step at a time."

Tadaaaaaaa! As I said, SHORT story. I really hope you liked it!

Bye bye! ;-)
