Daniel was in his room, pouring over the stones at his desk. His friend Liz was ten minutes late, and she was supposed to have much needed coffee. If he didn't get his coffee soon, there'd be hell to pay.

Finally, after another minute of unbearable caffeine deprivation, Liz walked through his doorway with two cups of steaming coffee and bulky pockets.

"You're late", Daniel commented off-handedly, taking the offered coffee.

"Sorry doc, the coffee line was long, and these," she paused, taking a handful of stones out of her pocket with her newly freed hand, "things have been makin' me trip on my pants."

Daniel smiled, and Liz began to empty her pockets, setting the stones down in a pile separate than his. She sat down in a free chair and started looking at each rock, one by one. He had invited his new protégé over to review their items from the last planet, which was her first.

Sam was leading a team back to the planet to start mining some minerals she found, but these friends got to pour over small rocks and the marks on them. They still have yet to find any man-made markings on them. All they saw were bird fossils.

"You know, there weren't any birds. In fact, I didn't see any critters at all", Liz noted as she picked up another rock to look at.

"It seems rather odd that an entire planet would be completely desolate like that", Daniel agreed, grabbing another stone.

Jack walked in stealthily to see what they were doing. When he realized that they were still drooling over the stupid rocks, he gently tapped them both on the shoulder, making them jump in unison. Jack broke into laughter at their reactions. Daniel glared at him and Liz forced her breathing to slow.

"Hey kids, anything good?" Jack asked once his laughing had subdued.

Daniel shook his head, "Nope, nothing but little fossils of birds. No Jack, nothing else, no human markings, no other signs that life might have existed once on this planet."

Jack nodded slowly, than patted Daniel on the back, "Keep up the good work then. I'll be in the mess if anyone wants to join me."

After Jack left, Daniel saw Liz slowly turning a rock over in her hands. Her Timex showed that it was getting late, and they hadn't eaten in awhile.

"Why don't we go follow him and grab some grub? We can finish the bird fossils later", Daniel suggested, getting an appreciative nod from his friend.

They followed their team leader into the Mess Hall and both grabbed trays. They joined Colonel O'Neill at a table where he was sitting by himself. They all started eating happily.

Once they were done, they put their trays up. They offered Liz to go somewhere with them, but she decided to call it a night.

She trekked back to her room in the base and started getting ready for bed. Yawning, she pulled back the sheets when she was done and rested.

Author's Note: I know this is short, but it's just a small buffer story to connect my series of Liz and SG-1. *shrug* I hope you like how it's started so far. I have lots more adventures in the work for these five friends.
