Jo sat on the edge of the blanket flipping through a trashy novel that Cliff bought her when he got the goodies for todays outing. A special little gift for being such a good wife and mother he told when he presented to her in the car. Of course which only resulted in the girls in crying they wanted a special gift too. The tears and screams ended when Cliff told them to look under their seats. Two new dolls. Plain, simple, but lovely none the less. Just like Jo's life.
"Mummy! Look at me!" Jo dog ears the page, she knew Cliff hating her doing that to books, but it wasn't like he'd ever read this (or would he?) and looks up at her eldest daughter waving a few yards away standing by a loopsed sandcastle.
"Very nice sweetie!" She calls out smiling huge with pride. Now being acknowledged from her mum Jo watches her daughter do a ninja kick and destroy the creation. Quickly on her small knees digging through the sand once more to make a better and bigger castle to share. Some much like her father never settling for anything, the best can never be reached attitude. While her sister took after mum, enjoying the simple ways of life, just happy with the here and now.
"Jo it's getting late." Cliff with their youngest gripping his hand appeared from her other side.
"Oh! You two gave mummy a fright! Did you have fun kite flying?"
"Yeah!"
"Come on pack up it's time to be heading home. Sweetie go get your sister." She nods and smiles a toothless grin before running down the shore. Jo stands bagging the goodies up as Cliff just stood and watched.
"I told you not to fold the pages you silly girl!" He tells her watching her toss the novel in the bag.
"Sorry honey."
