Jack slowly opened the door and closed it behind him, trying not to make a sound. He glanced around the hospital room, taking in every detail. The window with the shutters closed, the bed, the man lying on the bed, the machines keeping that man alive…

Jack shook his head, trying to clear his head. The man probably wouldn't even recognize him.

The man probably wouldn't even see him.

"Hello?" Jack said cautiously, walking towards the man. "Can you… can you hear me?"

The man didn't respond.

"Please." Jack said, his voice breaking. "Please say you remember me. Please say you can see me."

The man didn't respond.

"You promised." Jack said, fighting back the tears. "You promised that you wouldn't stop believing! How could you do this to me?" He laughed bitterly. "I should've expected this. Everyone told me that you wouldn't believe in me. Everyone told me you'd forget. After all, no one is the same person they were seventy years ago." He sighed and glanced down. "Well… except for me. After everyone leaves… I'm still left. Everyone leaves… and everyone forgets." He turned back to the man. "Please. Please say you still believe in me!"

The man didn't respond.

"I shouldn't have come." Jack said, turning away. This time, he allowed the tears to fall.

"Hello?"

Jack froze, hand on the doorknob.

"Is someone there?"

Jack slowly turned back to the man. "J… Jamie?"

The man laughed. "Jamie? No one's called me that in years." He raised his arm and gestured towards himself. "Come over here."

"I…" Jack glanced back at the door. He wasn't supposed to talk to Jamie- he had just wanted to see him one last time. "Okay." He walked over to Jamie's bed, leaning against the wall next to the window.

"You know, you remind me of someone." Jamie said, smiling. "We met a long time ago… when I was ten, in fact. I only saw him once, but he was the most amazing person I've ever met. He saved my life, you know."

Jack smiled. "He seems like a great guy. But… why are you telling me this?"

"I tell everyone about him." Jamie said, smiling. "People need to start believing in Jack Frost, because he's done more than enough to deserve it. I promised him that I would always believe in him, no matter what, but…" He trailed off.

"What?" Jack asked, leaning forward.

"I just wish he had come back."

Jack sighed. "No. You're not going to spend the rest of your days moping around in your past. I know something better we can do."

"And what's that?" Jamie asked, glancing over at Jack.

Jack grinned.

"We're going to have a little fun."
