Henry's Last Letter By: Hawk&Hotlips

A/N: This is a one shot about what Henry said on his way home to his wife. I bet this has been done before, but I thought of this letter on my own. I don't own any of the MASH characters. Fox does. The only ones I own are the ones I make up. One of my other stories, 'The Temporary Switch' is mentioned (about getting withdrawal symptoms) only because it admits how un-committed he was.

Dear Lorraine,

I am writing you this special letter because, I've been discharged. I realize that Andrew might not recognize me even after all of the pictures, but who else has called him "Daddy"? I got the telegraph yesterday, that the cat died but, I'm kind of glad. I really was allergic to them, but not so much that you'd notice. How's your job at the University? I know that you're one of the first woman teachers but, don't worry they'll get used to you. How's Lulu? She always baked cakes that were the BEST! They were even better than the store-bought ones. She always was also was the one to organize the neighborhood block parties, but an asylum? I realize that I'm not a psychologist but, there must have been something wrong before. I mean sure people become widows, but shooting out her chandelier? Coming to her husband, Jerry's, funeral nude? She must have had something wrong with her before. I just feel so bad for her.

Something's been bothering me, Lorraine. I have this feeling that something's going to go wrong. I mean the time is just too perfect; the wounded haven't really been coming in, Klinger hasn't bothered me as much, and I'm starting to like it here. The only bad part is that I just got word that Trapper is going to be discharged soon, and what's worse is Hawkeye wants to go on R&R right after I leave! What will he do once he finds out that his other best friend left too? Where can we find replacements? I have heard of this bright new guy right out of residency, BJ Hunnicut. BJ is his real name. There isn't a longer version of it, unless he wants to be called Beej. I've put in to have him placed here. Also, there's this Colonel, Colonel Potter, who only has about eighteen months but, he's a really good doctor I've heard, plus he'll be good for Radar because he was in the 18th Calvary in the World War I. So he loves horses, and I'm sure he'll have on here. I've put in for him too.

I'm scared Lorraine, the time for me to get discharged is too perfect. What if something happens on my way home? What if my plane gets shot down? What if I die? I know I shouldn't think these thing although, I have had affairs with the nurses. Not a lot, compared to Hawkeye, Trapper, and Frank to Margaret. I apologize to you, sweety. I have done it enough though, to get withdrawal symptoms when the whole team of Nurses left and male nurses had to learn the job, it was longer than I originally planned. Those stupid programs...Please forgive me Lorraine, please!

Your still loving husband,

Lieutenant, Colonel, soon to be civilian (hopefully) Henry Larry Blake
