Hospital Bed Jonas
~Chapter One~
Bang. My blood stood still in my veins as a gunshot pierced through the air around the bend. I froze, afraid until I collected my thoughts and will myself towards the noise, not sure if it was a hunt gone out of control or a murderous maniac. My heavy breathing from both my run and anxiety made it feel like lead was coating my lungs.
"Hey! What's going on?" I shouted as I finally made it to the scene. Two boys looked at me at me in fear before looking down at what looked like their third friend, or brother, blood pouring from his arm. This motivated me to run faster, sliding next to the unconscious one like a baseball player sliding into home plate.
"Take this and tie it around his arm. It's a little bulky but it will block the blood flow." I said shedding my sweatshirt, shivering as the cool morning air penetrated though my tee shirt. The curly haired one wrapped my shirt around the wounded ones arm as the straight haired one called 9-1-1.
"Lift his arm to encourage the blood to flow back to the heart." I instructed as I listened for his breathing and checked for a pulse.
"His pulse is slow and he's not breathing." I informed.
"Just give him mouth-to-mouth! Anything! We can't lose Nick." The curly hair brother begged, tears streaming down his face, red from previous tears. I opened his mouth gently with one hand while keeping track of his pulse with the other, lowering my mouth and slowly exhaling, giving him the breath of life. A minute passed as I gave mouth-to-mouth to the stranger, his brothers stopped what they were doing to watch me. I stopped when I heard groaning.
"Hey! Are you ok?" I asked, hoping he would respond. He did, or at least tried, leaning forward before I stopped him.
"We don't know if your back is hurt. Just lay here." I smiled reassuringly, laying a hand lightly on his ok shoulder, moving my fingers to his pulse. "Your pulse is quick. Maybe because you just woke up. Can you two watch him while I make sure the area is safe?"
"Maybe one of us should check… You know what you're doing." The straight haired one stated.
"No. You guys just keep him talking…or groaning. And listen for ambulances. I don't mind looking around! It seems pretty sound." I sighed before hearing a growl. I looked to see a big brown bear, an angry bear. Everyone got down and didn't look in its eyes, trying to avoid a conflict, but that wasn't enough. The bear lifted his claw and was about the strike the oldest brother. Thinking fast I pushed him away, taking a blow in the back. I could feel my warm blood streamed down my back, making me feel dizzy.
I feel forward, my hands held me up so I didn't fall on the youngest brother. Everything sounded like it was underwater. The screaming of the brothers, the police cars coming in, the gunshot the hit the bear, the paramedics telling me I should relax, that I did a good job and need medical attention. They laid me on the stretcher. The last thing I saw as my hearing faded was the lips of the other brothers mouthing 'thank you' before an eerie blackness blinded me.
