The rain poured around the outskirts of Station Square, flooding the ground and drowning anything in it's way.Thunder boomed fearfully as the lightning roared. A dark hedgehog stood, seeking shelter from beneath an old oak tree. Beside him stood his only friend, Rouge, a female bat that knew him well. They had been in a previous struggle with Eggman. Shadow breathed deeply, exhausted and in brief pain.

"Shadow.." Rouge said, worried about him. "You ok.."

He clutched his shoulder, his eyes tightly sealed shut. "I'm fine.." He replied. "..Just..fine.."

The anxious female crept closer to him, slowly moving his hand to look at his wound. A deep cut came visible, a deep slash into his flesh. It bled faintly.

"Just fine, eh.." She said. "Let me take a look and see what I can do.."

She pulled out a handkerchief, licked it slowly then dabbed his cut relatively. The stubborn hedgehog twinged quietly, trying not to show weakness in front of his companion. A few minutes of pain he suffered until he began to ease a little.

"Thanks..Rouge.." He muttered softly. A small smile emerging on his face.

She look at him a little funny, surprised at what he said and the fact that he smiled. In return she gave a small smile.

"What are friends for.." She said.

He just remained smiling faintly. Rouge was his only true friend, the only one he could talk to and ever be close to. He cherished her deeply.

"There..all done.." She said relieved. "That should do it for now.."

Before she could move her hand he grabbed it softly, holding it close to him. The bat blushed faintly at his actions.

"Rouge..." He said in a deep voice. "There's...there's something I've wanted to tell you.."

She gazed curiously at the hedgehog, listening carefully to him. Her cheeks faintly red, her clear blue eyes staring deeply into his blood red ones. He breathed heavily, the palms of his hands got sweaty and his cheeks went a light red.

"Rouge.." He said, taking a deep breathe. " I...I...l..lo"

Hushing him she placed a finger on his lips, her diamond blue gazing gazing upon him. A small grin on her face, her ruby red lips gleaming in the moonlight.

"I know.." She said smirking. "..I have the same feelings.."

Softly she pushed him against the oak tree, carefully not to cause him any more pain. Her head crept close to his, their faces inches from the other. Slowly she pressed her lips to his, her eyes closing as they kissed. The kiss lasted a few seconds but it felt like forever until they parted.

"Rouge.." Shadow whispered in her ear. "I love you.."
