Against All Odds (Bleach)

~Prologue~

"Lieutenant Ichimaru," The head captain boomed. "Who is this girl you have brought before us?" Gin Ichimaru laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his neck, casting a glance at the young child that stared at the floor, trembling. "Well, head captain, ya can't get mad at me fer this. I was doin' the right thing. She was lost in the alleyways when I was searchin' fer hollows. I asked 'er where 'er parents were and she said she didn't 'ave any. She woulda gotten eaten if I hadn't done somethin'!" He explained, turning his head back to the taicho's and fuku-taicho's in front of him. Few glared; others gave curious glances to the girl.

The head captain gave him a dead stare, "And so you thought it would be alright to bring her to the Soul Society?" Gin shook his head quickly. "No, no. I ain't done yet. This girl 'ere ain't like the others. She's stared Death in the eye. She's done thing you couldn't imagine. And none of it was her choice, was it?" Gin looked back down at the little girl. She jolted and looked up at him. She had big, round, gold eyes. She looked at him in confusion.

"Right, ya can't speak our language," Gin mused, shaking his head. The head captain sighed. "Lieutenant Ichimaru, there are consequences for bringing a human into the Soul Society without permission." "Now, now. One moment. She ain't a human. She has immense reaitsu that could bring down a menos! I brought 'er back, not just because she might've gotten eaten, but because she could become a Shinigami!" The lieutenant exclaimed.

Speaking up, Sosuke Aizen stepped forward. "Gin," He began in a deep, monotonous voice. The little girl shuddered and stepped back from him. "If this girl does have reaitsu, show us." Gin stared at his captain for a moment, then looked at the girl again. She blinked at him and looked down. Slowly, her spiritual pressure was released. It was a very large amount for such a young girl. She couldn't have been more than 6! The more weaker Shinigami trembled under the pressure. Gin remained unfazed despite his closeness to the girl.

"Told ya she has a lot of reaitsu." Claimed he triumphantly. The head captain sighed. "Alright, Lieutenant Ichimaru. I will give you this one. She may attend the Shinigami Academy - on one condition." Gin looked up. "You must take care of her at all costs. Keep her out of trouble. If she makes even one mistake she will be sent back to the human world. You will also have to teach her a language we can understand."

Without hesitation, Gin Ichimaru nodded. His fox-like grin seemed to grow wider. "Of course," He agreed. "Alright, what is this girl's name?" Asked the head captain, looking over the young girl from a distance. She fidgeted nervously on the spot, not liking the attention she was receiving. Gin responded,

"Riku Akuma Tsuki."
