Hands so used to kill, can they protect you now?
"Lord Kazekage, I am pleased to announce the birth of your daughter." The medic said, handing him a small wrapped bundle.
Gaara took the bundle, cradling the baby as if it would shatter should he do something wrong. She had soft red hair just like him and dark rings around her eyes. Gingerly, he touched his finger to the dark mark and she opened her eyes, staring at him in curiosity. Her eyes were small polished orbs of onyx, exactly like the Uchiha eyes he looked into every day.
"Well? Stop hogging her, Gaara. I did all the work! Let me see our baby." Saizen called weakly from her place on the bed.
Gaara moved to her side, placing the baby down next to her. The birth had been incredibly hard for her. A couple of times he thought he'd lost her, but she came back every time. That was his Saizen, an Uchiha who never gave up a challenge. However despite her fire, her heart rate had dropped severely and upon delivery the medics rushed to get her vitals back stable. She was still hooked up to several machines, but the readings were good. The medics expected her to make a full recovery.
"Oh, she's adorable! She looks more like you, Gaara. Especially with those marks." Saizen said, cuddling her newborn girl. "What do you want to name her?"
Gaara thought for a moment. "Koishi. Her name is Koishi."
"Beloved", Saizen smirked, "Very fitting."
I want to show you everything. I want to give you the world.
"Wow! You can see the whole village from up here!" Koishi said from atop the sand cloud. She held onto Gaara's pants leg as he kept them suspended up far enough to see over the entire Sand Village.
These were the moments he cherished; moments of seeing pure happiness in his child's eyes. Being the Kazekage meant being constantly busy, but he always managed some time for Koishi, whether it was a walk through the shops in town or watching the sunset over the village. At first Gaara was hesitant of taking her down into the streets; the years of pain and hatred he'd felt had not fully worn off, but the villagers loved little Koishi. They often had treats and gifts for her. One glassblower had created a charm with Gaara's 'love' kanji on it.
She traveled with him often too. When they were abroad in other villages, she had a caretaker/bodyguard to keep her safe when Gaara was absent. And after every meeting and every summit, Gaara would take her to see the sights and browse the shops.
There was nothing too good for his Koishi.
You are precious to me. I love you.
Koishi had taken her mother's old Leaf headband as a good luck charm for her Academy graduation test. She said since it kept her mother safe as a young ninja, it would help her as well. She also took her small glass charm.
Saizen was waiting at the Academy after the test when her daughter proudly showed off her Sand headband. She was a full-fledged ninja of the Sand now. And she was going to make her father proud.
Gaara waited anxiously, although he didn't show it, to hear the news. Gaara had never wanted her to be a ninja. He would have preferred to keep her a civilian, out of harm's way and always home in the village. But when she expressed interest in training, he had no choice. Now here she was at her first step to becoming a shinobi.
She said nothing when she walked into his office, letting the new headband do the talking instead. The Sand symbol shone on the metallic backing. A small smile played around his mouth.
"And now," Koishi spoke up, "I can start working on my dream, Father."
"Dream? What is your dream, Koishi?" Gaara asked.
She looked him square in the eye. "To become the Sixth Kazekage."
My little Koishi…can I protect you now?
