Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter
No Longer Whole
As he stared into her eyes, her panic-stricken eyes, he realised that he had gone against everything he had ever been taught. Boys shouldn't allow themselves to care. Boys don't let their feelings get in the way. And most importantly, boys don't cry. Ever.
So why were there tears falling from his eyes? Why wouldn't they stop?
Deep down, he knew why. He had allowed himself to love the girl standing in front of him. He had let down every single wall he'd built around himself. He'd let her become a part of him. As far as he was concerned they were no longer two separate people. They were now one person. One person that had just been torn in two. He wondered which parts of himself he was now missing. Definitely his heart. Judging by the difficulty he had breathing, probably his lungs too.
"Draco, I-"
"Don't."
He wouldn't, couldn't, allow her to talk. If he did, she would begin to spin another intricate web of lies, deceit and empty promises, and she wouldn't stop until he believed her. Because that's what she did; she cheated her way to the top. She didn't care who she hurt, just as long as she got what she wanted. But he needed to know...
"Why?"
"I don't know why. It just happened."
He laughed a short, humourless laugh.
"No. These things don't just happen. A year Pansy. A whole twelve months. Does that mean anything to you?"
As he spoke the words, he felt them cut through him. It had been a year that they'd been together. A year that had just been thrown away. Every touch, every kiss; nothing but a lie. He should have known that this would happen. It was common knowledge that she had a reputation for this kind of thing. But he never thought she would do it to him. It was ironic how she'd made him promise that he'd be faithful to her, never cheat on her and never hurt her, and he never did. She had though.
She walked forwards and took hold of his face.
"I am sorry. You have to believe me. I didn't mean for this to happen. I never planned to hurt you. Please don't let this stupid mistake ruin everything we have. Please," she pleaded with him. "I love you Draco. You have to believe that if nothing else. I do love you, and I am so sorry."
"How can I believe you? When you speak, you tell me a lie. When you make a promise, you break it. When you have my trust, you betray it. I did love you. I loved you so much. But you destroyed that too. You're poison, and you know it. You managed to fool me once, but I won't let it happen again. So I'm going to walk away, and leave you to find some other guy to con, because I can't let you hurt me anymore."
He turned and left the room. Hatred bubbled through him. Anger coursed through his veins. The strongest emotion however, was sadness. It hit him wave after wave after wave. He was drowning in a sea of disappointment, and he couldn't find his way out. All he could see was darkness, and he knew why. His light had gone out. The light that had guided him through the past year had flickered out and died.
And it wasn't ever going to come back on.
