Hey guys! So, knowledge of the musical isn't absolutely necessary for understanding of this fic, but you will miss out on some of the refrences, and there are certain songs that are essential for a better understanding of some of the later chapters and I will let you know when we get there. I recommend the soundtrack not only for a deeper understanding of the story, but also because it's awsome. It's an hour and a half long and is worth every minute. It can be found on YouTube. Also, Wikipedia has an excellent synopsis of the musical if you haven't seen it.
Disclaimer: Unfortunately, I don't own Psych or Wicked, but they are two of my favorite things.
Chapter 1
"I called you almost an hour ago," the chief states as Shawn climbs out of the passenger seat of Gus' little blue car.
"Chief," Shawn replies. "we were on our way, but there was this kitten stuck in a tree—"
"And we drove right past it," Gus interrupts. "And then Shawn absolutely couldn't working on a case without having a burrito first."
"Gus, how can you expect me to work on an empty stomach?" Shawn asks. "The spirits won't talk to me if I don't feed them every three hours."
"The body's over here," the chief says, apparently deciding that an kind of chastisement would be in vain.
"I'll just…" Gus walks back toward the car muttering something about making sure no one steals the stereo out of the dashboard.
"He does realize we're surrounded by police," the chief says to Shawn as they watch him go.
"He doesn't like bodies," Shawn answers. "So," he claps his hands together. "Where is it?"
"Right this way," the chief leads Shawn through a set of barricades and over a hill. "She was found an hour and a half ago by a group of teenagers who had fled the scene by time we got here. Three guesses why."
"Jules, Lassie," Shawn greets loudly as he and the chief approach. The body is hidden by Juliet and Lassiter's crouching forms. They both turn toward his voice and stood up when they spotted he and the chief.
"Spencer," Lassiter growls. "It's about time." But Shawn's mouth falls open as soon as they stand up and the body is revealed.
"She's…," Shawn looks to the chief. "She's…," he takes a step close and peers past Juliet and Lassiter. "Dude! She's green!"
The woman a lying at the bottom of the hill is a slightly different shade of green than the grass. Her hair appears jet black, and she is clad in a long, full black dress, hues of red and purple barely visible. Shawn guesses they are more apparent in different lighting.
"That's what they said on the phone," Lassiter replies.
"And you thought they were just tripping," Shawn scoffs.
"How—" Lassiter starts to ask.
"Please, Lassie," Shawn replies. "Even if the spirits weren't whispering in my ear."
"Shawn!" Shawn turns to see Gus running down the hill toward them.
"Hey, buddy!" Shawn calls. "You decided to join us."
"One of the cops told me she's green. Where is she?" Gus asks, but before anyone answers, he spots the body. "It is her," he covers his face.
"Who is it, Gustor?" the chief asks.
"This is Emily Knowles," Gus answers.
"Who?" Lassiter asks after a moment of silence.
"This is Elphaba," Gus answers, frustrated. "And that's a twenty-thousand dollar dress."
"Forgive me," Lassiter throws his hands up. "I forgot all about the dress. I was distracted by the dead girl."
"Carlton, calm down," the chief says, not looking up from the pad she is scribbling on. "This is a lead. It's a good thing."
Juliet looks at Shawn and Gus. "I've always wanted to see Wicked."
