"Waking up and seeing the empty spot beside me... I wish you were here..." The thought was the same in both women. Their days were spent in awkward silences, both wanting to say something but neither daring.
It was two days after they had slept with each other. It was a mistake. They were drunk and Maura had nearly been killed by a maniac. It meant nothing. That's what they had agreed on. It would never be be spoken of again.
That didn't mean they wouldn't think about it though. It was all either of them thought about.

"I've missed you." Those were the first words Maura spoke when she opened the door to see Jane stood there.
"I've missed you too. Can I come in?"
"Yeah. Would you like a beer?" Jane stepped over the doorway and nodded.
"Please." She followed Maura into the kitchen and started to play with the cool beads of condensation that were falling down her beer bottle.
"I'm sorry-" they both began at the same time.
"Look, I'm sorry I let this get between us. I shouldn't have. It's just I love you, Maur. I couldn't see you get hurt."
"Jane. I understand. I love you too. It wasn't just you though. I let it push us apart too. That morning, seeing you asleep next to me, it made me realise how much I need you. I wasn't brave enough to say anything though." She sighed regretfully and looked down at her feet. Jane moved toward her and placed her hand on Maura's arm.
"Bed?" She asked, "Both of us? Just sleep though." Maura nodded and started to follow Jane up the stairs. She stopped in her tracks and grabbed the detectives hand. Jane turned round and Maura kissed her lightly on the lips.
"Sorry. I wasn't thinking." She bowed her head in embarrassment.
"It's ok." Jane replied with another kiss. This one was slightly deeper as Jane's tongue parted Maura's mouth. The doctor hesitated before allowing access and sliding her tongue in. There was a fight for dominance which Jane won due to the fact she had moved her hands and placed them on Maura's neck. Jane felt the vibrations against her lips as Maura "hmmm-ed" when the kiss began to stop.
"Bed. But with some sleeping that doesn't involve sleeping?" There was a slight apprehension in the blond's voice until the detective nodded and they finished making their way to Maura's room.
