With gentle and soft footsteps Hoshi approaches the creature as it stared up, it's head cocked to the side, eyes wide staring straight at her. As she crouches down with both hands outstretched the creature squeaks, almost as if to say hello.

"It's okay sweetie, I'm not going to hurt you." Hoshi says softly not wanting her voice to startle it as she carefully picks the creature up. To her eyes it appeared to be a cross between a bird absent of wings and a cat. The creature doesn't protest just continues staring up at her seemingly happily.

Hoshi knew the Captain wasn't going to be pleased about this, especially given the fact she hadn't asked permission before hand. He could have said no, told her to leave the creature, not to get involved in the natural habitats of a planet they knew nothing about. Hoshi realized that maybe this creature now making a soft clicking sound was suppose to die in that thorny batch, maybe a larger creature with children to feed had left it there for later consumption. The circle of life that she might of interrupted by her actions. She shakes her head and starts to walk faster. No she did the right thing for her and this creature.

"Doctor! Will it be alright?" Hoshi walks up to Doctor Phllox who was packing up the last of the soil and plant samples humming softly.

"What? Oh a Weplcrcoli! I didn't know they lived this far east," He takes the creature from Hoshi's hands and places it on the rickety table and starts to scan it with the tricorder. "She appears to be five years old. And except for this cut perfectly healthy!"

"It's a she huh? Now I feel bad for calling it Dave." Hoshi says with a laugh as she reaches to pat the creature on her head. "Could you keep her? I mean for the medical bay, I'm sure a Welpcolicr, or whatever it is would be helpful right?"

"No. I have no use for one, plus I am sure she'll be much happier here."

"She's so small and young. Please?"

"Have no fear ensign, Welpcrcoli's can take care of themselves, extremely tough creatures. Oh the fact their meat is posinous to most creatures usually stops anything from attacking it. Far as being young, they only live seven years." As he was talking he was also fixing the cut now insuring it was completely healthy in every possible way.

"T'Pol to away team it's time to go." The Vulcan's unemotional voice came from the communicator that sat a few inches from the creature.

"Well I guess this is goodbye Dollie, best of luck out there! Try to avoid thorn bushes alright?" Hoshi runs her hand along the creatures back.

"Dollie? What's with humans and naming everything?" Phllox asks as they both start heading towards the shuttle pod and Travis, with equipment in both hands.

"Not sure, I suppose because humans easily get emotional attached to creatures and other things, even things that are inanimate and naming them fuels the fire."

"Interesting."

"Yeah once I named my desk Asa."

"You humans really are quite fascinating Ensign!"

"Good."
