"Get off of me!" Rosemist pushed a tiny kit away from her, and he squealed in delight. "Ashkit," his mother scolded from her nest in the dark den. The kit bounded over to his mother. "Why is she so mean?" Rosemist barely heard the Ashkit's question. -His mother did, though. "Now, now, Ashkit. She's not mean, she's just cold and hungry, like the rest of us." The she-cat's voice dropped to a whisper. "And her kits were supposed to come a moon ago."
Now this, Rosemist did here. But she sighed and continued to lay almost motionless. "Rosemist, you get some sleep," the other queen meowed. "I know, Darkshadow," Rosemist replied in a tired voice. She closed her eyes, and dozed off.
"Rosemist? Rosemist!" Darkshadow's panic-stricken meow rang out across the snowy clearing. Cats emerged from their dens, rubbing sleep from their eyes. Rosemist's mate, Sunstalker, hurried over to the nursery, and entered.
"What's wrong?" The tom peered anxiously into Rosemist's nest. The queen lay unmoving. Sunstalker threw his head back and let out a yowl of anguish. The whole clan seemed to know what was wrong when he dragged his mate into the clearing. There were gasps, and a couple of wails and sobs. The elders hurried over and prepared her body, then carried her to the Star Clearing.
The Star Clearing is where ThunderClan buried it's cats. They had decided that it was best to bury them before sitting vigil, since a couple of bad incidents had proven that the ceremony wasn't helpful when you're mourning. It had one new hole dug every time that one cat was buried.
The elders gently pushed the dead queen into the hole, and covered it up. Sunstalker would have liked to have another glimpse of his mate, but he had been pulled away by Darkshadow, who lay her black tail gently across Sunstalker's shoulders. "Why did you have to take her, StarClan? Why?" Sunstalker hung his head in defeat, his tail hanging limply on the snow-dusted ground.
"Have you sent someone to get Rosemist?" A starry cat turned towards her companions, who all had the same shimmering, unearthly glow. One of them nodded, a small white she-cat with unusual, blue-violet eyes. "Thank you, Whitepaw," The cat who had first spoken meowed. Then, from behind her, she heard a voice. "Berrystar," it said. "Rosemist has arrived."
Berrystar turned around, seeing a large brown and white tom with a tortoiseshell she-cat. The she-cat wasn't glowing, and her health obviously hadn't been restored, like most StarClan cats. "Oh!" Berrystar couldn't bite back an astonished meow. The pale tabby shook her head, and then dipped it to Rosemist. "I apologize for my rudeness. Welcome to StarClan," she greeted. Rosemist gazed all around her with sad, green eyes.
"Am I really dead?" Assuming it was a rhetorical question, Berrystar didn't respond. "Let me show you around, she meowed, guiding the queen along with her tail. She gave Rosemist a sideways glance. She still didn't have the odd light, or the stars lighting up her fur. Oh well, Berrystar thought. Perhaps she'll become like a real StarClan cat soon.
Sorry that this chapter is so short! I promise, we'll be getting to the exciting stuff soon. Leave a comment on what you think is going on, and also, I'd love to get some ideas!
