Smile

A Relationship In Five Smiles (and an epilogue)

When Noah first smiled at him, he was worried. To him it seemed predatory and he wondered whether tomorrow he would be getting intimate with the inside of a dumpster again.

The second time Noah smiled at him, Mercedes joked that Noah was in love with him. He laughed of course but he couldn't help wondering...

The third time Noah smiled at him, he tried a tentative smile back. Noah's face lit up and he felt a strange feeling in his stomach. Mercedes whisper-sung "Must be love, love, love..." next to him but this time he didn't laugh. Maybe it was. For him anyway.

The fourth time Noah smiled at him, he grinned back because they had become friends. They had both stayed behind in the choir room to talk about the whole smiling thing the night before and they'd reached an understanding between them. No more slushies and dumpster dives for Glee Club and no more 'Neanderthal' and other derogatory comments for Noah (but not the rest of the team. Kurt had limits after all).

The fifth time Noah smiled at him, it was full of love and he smiled a similar smile back, after all, they had been going out for a year now. Mercedes smiled as well because she knew she had been right and 'hey, her boy Kurt was happy' as she frequently told people who wondered at Kurt and Noah's relationship.

Epilogue- Every day, Kurt and Noah make sure they smile at each other. Sometimes it's a small smile with a hint of sadness such as on the anniversary of Kurt's mother's death. Sometimes it's a huge smile full of love because they have each other but always it's a smile and every time they see that smile on their partners' face, they're reminded of how they ended up with each other and those little moments in Glee Club when they'd just... smile.
