Settling the Past
Chapter One:
"Isn't it okay….if you know you're going to hurt someone, shouldn't it be justified to kill yourself rather than hurt them? If it came down to killing someone else and killing yourself, isn't it better to kill yourself?"
I should've known something was wrong when he asked me that question, I should've known the deeper meaning to his words—the true darkness consuming him.
"Kill yourself? You shouldn't even think that—I…are you thinking about that Kitazawa, I…."
"No…no….I'm not." Suddenly his face turned wryly sad. "I'm not…." 'That's the problem.' I heard his expression say—or thought I heard it say.
But I dismissed it, I shouldn't have, but I did—this conversation was too discomforting, too surreal to take serious.
I mean, I knew Kitazawa for years now, he would never do anything to himself—he was against it.
'That's the problem.'
The thought wormed its way into my brain as I looked at the sky, reminiscing about years past. Too many years gone by, too many things I could've done different—too many mistakes I've made.
The main one being letting Kitazawa succumb to his demons—demons he unleashed on someone else, someone I could've protected if I did things differently.
That's why I now stood in front of the luxurious house, garage filled with three different foreign made cars, each immaculate.
"Eiri-kun lives here…."
