Title: By Your Side
Pair: Yzak & Shiho
Notes: This is set on Phase 48 of Gundam SEEd, where Yzak gets off his Duel and three ZAFT reds come to salute to him.
Disclaimer: If I owned Gundam SEED and/or Destiny, Shiho would've gotten more lines. Seriously.
Commander Yzak Joule got off the Duel, as he held on to the cable that took him down, his hands were still shaking. After seeing the first shot from the GENESIS, he felt so cold and scared.
He couldn't move and just thought what if any of his men were caught in that monstrosity. He wouldn't be able to live with it. It made him re-think of what he was fighting for and if it killing every last natural was the right way to victory.
"Sir,"
Yzak turned and saw four of his men salute at him, he saluted back. It was Shiho; she was leading those other three. No doubt they had a report to give but he wasn't in the mood to listen to any damned report.
What he needed was to sit down and think. Dearka, Athrun and Lacus weren't with ZAFT; they were possible targets by the ZAFT army. He didn't want them to die, since his last encounter with Dearka; he had done some heavy thinking.
Yzak knew he wouldn't be able to live knowing he could've done something to prevent their deaths but didn't do anything to save them. It wouldn't be the same without his best friend, his rival and the annoying, in a good way, pink princess.
Shiho looked at Yzak's pale face and turned to her companions, "I'll be the one to relay the news to the Commander, the rest of you should get some rest or something."
"You may go." Yzak said, knowing they waited for his permission. They saluted at him before they left.
"You look pale," Shiho said with a small frown, "You need some rest."
"I'll be fine." Yzak insisted but still had Shiho push him towards the hallway.
"Yzak, I can tell something's bothering you." Shiho said, "Can't you share it with me? Whenever… I feel ill at ease when you're like this. Ever since you came back with Commander Le Creuset from L4, you've been like this."
"It… It's nothing." Yzak insisted.
He was surprised when Shiho suddenly embraced him and it seemed like she was never going to let go. Yzak stiffened, "Shi—"
"I'm here." Shiho told him, "Whatever's bothering you… I'm here. I'm always here if you need me."
"Shiho…" Yzak whispered, "I…"
"You're trembling." Shiho said, "Yzak, you don't have to be brave in front of me."
After a few moments, Shiho felt Yzak ease and embrace her which made her embrace him even tighter. How she was scared of losing him, he just didn't know how much he meant to her.
"Can I… Can I hold you just a bit longer?" Yzak asked quietly.
Shiho nodded, "As long as you like."
