A/N: My attempt at an only-dialogue piece of writing. More frustrating than I anticipated, not being able to describe characters positions or facial expressions or tones of voice. But a very enjoyable and helpful exercise overall. 10/10 would recommend. Inspired by the word "chuffed"

Word of the Day: Chuffed

chuffed \chuhft, adjective:

1. annoyed; displeased; disgruntled.
2. delighted; pleased; satisfied.

"But how can a word have two exact opposite definitions?!"

"Annabeth…"

"Sorry, sorry—I won't bring it up again."

"You're still thinking about it?"

"Of course I am! The word literally means delighted and annoyed, displeased and pleased, disgruntled and satisfied all at the exact same time!"

"Annabeth, I know. You've told me multiple times. It's just not in your nature to let stuff go is it?"

"No, Percy it isn't. Not when I have a midterm for a mandatory English class coming up—a class that has absolutely nothing to do with my major might I add—and I can't even find a solid definition for the word 'chuffed.'"

"Alright, I'm just going to have to distract you."

"No, I have to study for this and all my other classes…Percy stop it. Don't look at me like that."

"Like what?"

"Don't look at me like a baby dolphin caught in a fishing net."

"Whoa, rough visual."

"Well, you asked for it."

"Annabeth, let me try to help you relax okay?"

"Percy, I really don't want to relax."

"Yeah, you do, you've just been so busy cramming everything you could ever possibly need to know you haven't realized it yet. Here—how does this feel?"

"Percy, that—that…well actually that feels kind of great."

"And this?"

"Mm-what? Oh, yeah. Keep doing that."

"And what where you saying about not wanting to relax?"

"Shut up Seaweed Brain, keep doing what you're doing."

"Yes ma'am."

"What time is it Percy?"

"Hmm—what?"

"What time is it?"

"I think it's…nine-ish?"

"Oh my gods—Seaweed Brain, I'm late!"

"Ow! Okay, how is hitting me helping the situation?"

"It makes me feel better, now help me find my shoes!"

"Wait, so being late is stressing you out…"

"Yes, Percy, my being late to my first midterm ever is stressing me out just a bit."

"But hitting me made you feel better."

"And I'll do it again if you keep stating the obvious and don't help me find my shoes."

"Well, now you're chuffed."

"What are you talking about Seaweed Brain…Ooh! Found them!"

"You're annoyed at me for being late, and yet pleased at my physical pain—which is something we're gonna have to talk about later."

"Oh suck it up you baby, it was only a love tap."

"Okay, I'm sorry for hitting you and I will apologize properly when I get home but until then—"

"You're forgiven."

"I thought I'd be. See you tonight."

"Love you. Bye"

"Love you too. And stop laughing at me. You were the same with your midterms, Seaweed Brain."

"We don't speak of those dark times."

"Alright, bye."

"Bye."

"Shut the door Percy, the neighbors are staring."

"Right, bye."

"Bye."
