Cotton Candy

2013

You're name is Roxy Lalonde and you have a crush on your best friend. You've been crushing on her for awhile now, but you've finally decided to tell her today.

A doorbell rings. You smile giddily, only slightly drunk, and wait for the door to open. "Hey, Mr. Egbert!" You call out as a familiar face appears from behind the door. He smiles brightly and gestures for you to come in, which you do. As you pass him by, heading for the stairs up to Janey's room, you wink at him and giggle. He laughs awkwardly and nods his head towards his daughter's room.

You knock on the door of her bedroom eagerly, still grinning brightly, and the door opens. You run straight into Jane's arms, hugging her tightly as you both giggle.

"Roxy!" Jane laughs, her signature 'Hoo, hoo' echoing through Roxy's ears. "What a nice surprise!" You feel your cheeks start to blush gently as you pull away from her, but you shake it off. "Yea! I thought you'd wants to see me!" You correct yourself to want, but carry on grinning as you talk.

The two of you carry on talking for a few minutes before Jane asks you a question. "So, is there any particular reason you're here, Rox?" You prepare yourself; you take a deep breath and clear your head. 'No going back now', you repeat in your head. You reach for Jane's hand, her soft and (only slightly) chubby hands, pulling her towards her own bed, where you both sit down. You place yourself on the end of the bed, while Jane sits almost on her pillows.

Another deep breath. It feels as though the whole world is spinning, but you keep your head straight, smile and look her straight in the eyes and move closer to her, both of you giggling as you place a small kiss on her cheek. You blush bright pink, but you peck again, still laughing as you move towards her lips.

Jane takes your shoulders gently and pulls you away, not quite so jolly anymore. "Roxy? What are you doing?" Her face is isn't one of love or joy, it's one of regret and sadness.

"I…" You pause. Your whole world is now falling apart. You can see it in her eyes. She doesn't… she doesn't love you back and you can feel it. "I love you, Jane. I'm sorry…"

Jane's face turns morphs into an expression of shock. "Roxy… I-I didn't know, I'm so sorry… But, I'm straight. I'm so sorry, Rox. But we'll always be bffsies forever, right?" She pulls a small smile.

Suddenly, you feel slightly enraged, at both yourself and Janey. Why would you ever think that she would love you?! She's straight, idiot!

A tear falls down your cheek, unintentionally. You lean forward again and rest your head on Jane's breasts, crying softly, although you're not quite sure why.

After a few minutes of quiet crying and over dramatic apologies, you get up and walk out of the room. Out of the house, past Mr. Egbert. Not a single 'goodbye' or a wink. Nothing.

The only thing left now is emptiness. That's all you can feel. No more anger, no sorrow, just emptiness. A feeling as though some part of your soul has been taken from you and ripped to shreads.

It feels strange, having your heart ripped out, not quite what you expected. There's a lot more pain involved than you thought. A lot more.
