Note: this is my first YnM fic. Tis a 500 word drabble written on new year's eve.

Tsuzuki glanced around the room, trying to locate his missing partner. The shinigami were having an office party for the new year and Hisoka had not been thrilled. But as he finally spied the green eyed boy he noticed that Hisoka didn't look angry. Rather he was avoiding physical contact with anyone.
Tsuzuki smiled as he observed Hisoka enjoying the conversations around him. The teen tried so hard to seem distant. But eventually everyone noticed he was more afraid of strong emotions than people.
The purple eyed shinigami made his way over to his partner. "Enjoying yourself Hisoka?"
His pale face pinched as he frowned. "No."
Tsuzuki hid a smile in his cup. Taking a drink he turned to the shorter boy. "Hisoka don't be silly. I know you're enjoying yourself. Relax and stop thinking about troubles."

Watari glanced around the room. Everyone was laughing; having a great time. He noticed Hisoka in a corner trying to keep a frown on his face as Tsuzuki tried to cheer him up. The golden haired scientist smiled. He knew Tsuzuki would manage, his enthusiasm was rather contagious.
Amber eyes continued around the room, he noticed a distinct lack of a certain Secretary. After questioning a few people Watari concluded that the sapphire eyed shinigami had never shown up. And it was almost midnight. Slipping quietly out the door golden locks headed down the hallway.

Back at the party Tsuzuki noticed Watari slip out. He smiled knowing the scientist would ensure that Tatsumi loosened up a bit. Turning back to his partner he sighed. Hisoka was being stubborn.
"Come on Hisoka, at least try some of the pie. It's soo good!" Tsuzuki eyed the desserts.
Green eyes rolled at the request. The older man was as easy to read as a sign sometimes. He obviously wanted to get back to his desserts, but also wanted Hisoka to participate. Giving in just a little, Hisoka agreed to try the pie.

Watari slipped into the tidy office. Predictably the Secretary was hard at work at his desk. "Why aren't you at the party Tatsumi?"
Sapphire eyes peered over glasses towards his visitor. "Some of us need to work to keep this section running."
"Pish-tush! You know you don't need to be working this late. Especially on a holiday." Watari moved closer.
Tatsumi adjusted his glasses and went back to his report. A soft hmm was all the response Watari received.

Back at the party, dessert finished, Hisoka watched everyone as they counted down the final seconds. As they reached zero Tsuzuki leaned over and kissed him lightly.
"Happy new year Hisoka." He grinned at the green eyed boys astonished face.

Down the hall Watari heard the final count and spun Tatsumi's high back chair around. He quickly straddled Tatsumi's thighs and swooped in for a kiss. After a moment he drew back and gazed into bewildered sapphire.
"Happy new year Tatsumi." His golden eyes crinkled up in a mischievous smile.
