A Glimpse of Destiny
I've had this idea for awhile and am now ready to share it.
The meteor shower had been an incredible spectacle, but it had made travel in a gummi ship slightly hazardous. Thankfully, the journey to Radiant Garden had resulted in no damage to his vessel and for that, King Mickey was grateful. Now, as he headed back to his own world, the mouse king could only hope that his words had swayed Ansem the Wise and would stop the spreading darkness.
"Your Majesty! There's a world below us!' Mickey glanced down at Chip and Dale, his gummi engineers, and then glanced out the window. Sure enough, a chain of tropical islands was spread out below the ship
"Oh, isn't that something. I oughta take the Queen there for a vacation." The King allowed himself a smile; his beloved Queen did love a tropical getaway. And this place looked so peaceful. Mickey guided the ship down a bit. "Sire?"
"Just taking a closer look."
The gummi ship glided over the tops of the softly-swaying palm trees and shimmering ocean. Chip and Dale scurried around, peering out the windows and chattering amongst themselves. Clearly, they were just as pleased with this world as their king was.
Eventually, a house loomed into view. Mickey felt himself almost drawn to the building just as a moth is drawn to a flame. The mouse king circled the building, flipping a switch to his right. On a small monitor, Mickey was able to get a closer view of the house. And within a second story window, he saw something that made him stop the ship and hover in midair
The window had been outfitted with a cushioned ledge inside the room. Curled on top of the ledge, fast asleep, were two little boys wrapped in a quilt.
Mickey stared into the monitor, his eyes fixed on the children. One of the boys, a silver-haired little fellow, looked a tad older than his companion (the two were too different in looks to be brothers, although they were probably just as close as brothers). The silver-haired boy clutched a stuffed dinosaur with one hand and grasped the hem of the quilt with the other. He was a good-looking boy, his face serene in sleep, but it was the other little one who captured the King's attention.
Small and a little on the scrawny side, the boy's spiky brown hair flopped over his face as he lay curled on his side. He held a floppy-eared stuffed dog close to his chest and looked even more content in dreamland than his friend.
"Well, that's cute."
"Yep. They probably fell asleep watching the meteor shower."
"Probably," Mickey murmured, agreeing with his engineers. He couldn't take his eyes off the brown-haired boy; he could swear the boy was bathed in a soft golden light that no darkness could touch. And after seeing so much darkness, this little source of light was such a welcome sight.
"I wonder who that little fella is," Mickey mused, ruefully guiding the ship away from the building.
"Do ya think he's special?" Dale asked.
"All children are special," the King replied. "But I have the strangest feeling that I'll be seeing that boy again sometime. With luck, destiny will send him my way again. If the darkness persists, we'll need him "
The gummi ship glided away into the star-studded sky, leaving behind two children who, fittingly enough, lived on the Destiny Islands, where legends are born.
