I don't own House of Night.
I strained my neck to get a better look. They hadn't lied, her mark was filled in.
Huh, strange. I fingered my empty mark thoughtfully. She couldn't be a Vampyre yet.
She had already made a friend it seemed. Stevie-Rae led her to a table in the back, their plates filled with spaghetti. Not one of my favourite meals, but not bad as far as spaghetti goes. Her eyes flicked in my direction making contact, then leaving as soon as they came, my face already forgotten.
I watched as they sat down then turned back to my meal. My friend looked at me. "What do you think of her?" she said.
I stabbed my pasta and swirled it around my fork, wondering. "I think she looks nice enough. Not plain at all." I said finally. She had piercing hazels eyes, that seemed to gaze into you soul at the briefest of eye contact.
My friend nodded. "Did you see how fast Aphrodite jumped up to show her to her room?" she shook her head. "That girl is in for some trouble if she is noticed by Aphrodite."
It was only the two of us at the table today. In the silence I could hear everyone talking about the same thing, a name whispering through the crowd. Zoey…
I heard a meow as brindle coloured cat patted over to me. She hopped up onto my lap, demanding my attention.
"And what do you think of Zoey?" I said as I scratched his head.
He rubbed up against me in response, looking at me with knowing eyes. Great, so even my cat had seen Zoey before I had.
I turned back to look at Zoey. She was talking with the others Stevie-Rae had introduced her too, already seemingly at home with the group. I wasn't the only one sneaking looks at her.
As if she could feel the eyes of the Dinning Hall on her, she turned, looking out at all the faces turned in her direction. Felling ashamed to stare, I turned back. I wouldn't want everyone looking at me. Especially on my first day.
I remembered how hard it was. The humiliation at being pulled into a world I had no desire joining. My parents had been horrified. They had had big plans for me, that being the one part I enjoyed about this life.
Now I didn't mind it so much. She'd get used to it too. Especially if the rumours were true, and she really did have Neferet as a mentor. All the rumours had been true so far.
A pang of jealousy hit me. This girl was different. She was special, and I was just another face in the crowd.
AN- Got bored. It's over, just wanted to make a random one shot of the story. Not long at all, but I used the book as a reference. They really were eating spagetti Zoey's first night eating with everyone! ^^
REVIEW PLEASE. :)
