Maximum Ride
I was sitting on a cliff at the edge of the woods, staring off into space. The whole time I was thinking about my past. We lived in a dog crate until Jeb helped us escape. We lived with him for a few years, but then he left. Erasers came after us and Angel got kidnapped. We went to save her, but on the way I stopped to help Ella, who turns out to be my step sister.
One of the boys had a gun, and they shot my wing. I went back to Ella's house for help. Her mom, Dr. Martinez, is a vet, so it made perfect sense. It took a while, but I finally got back to the others, and we could continue saving Angel.
That's when I heard someone come out of the woods.
"Max." It said.
I turned around. It was half human. Half Eraser.
"Ari? Is that.. is that you?" It was him, but it wasn't. He was Ari, but he was fourteen.
"Yea." he replied.
"You're... you're alive!" it seemed impossible for him to be here.
"I'm back," he said, "It was because of you."
"How did I do it?" I asked. I didn't do anything.
"My memory of you did." he answered, "When my expiration date came, my life flashed before my eyes. But it didn't stop at seven. It kept going, but it slowed down, and I could start pulling myself out. It got to fourteen. It would have kept going until I died for real if I never thought about you."
"Oh, Ari. You missed seven years of life!" I exclaimed.
"It doesn't matter. I've come back to help you. And see you again." he said.
"Ever since you helped us escape the school, I've considered you part of the flock." I said, "Another member of our mutant family. And then you were my real brother. It was really hard on everyone when you died. But I can't let you come with us. It's too dangerous."
"You think I care about danger?" he yelled, "I chased you around the continent, trying to destroy you, even though you're really strong. I fought Itex with you, even though the odds were very slim that we would win. I don't care about danger. I'm lucky to be here now!" he sounded really mad.
"Look, Ari, I miss you a lot." I started, "The few months with you were amazing, but I can't drag you into this. It's not your battle, and you don't need to risk your life for us. We can do it on our own."
"I'm older Max." he began, "I won't get killed, and I won't be trouble. Please, Max. You're the only reason I came back."
"Max, it's okay." Angel came out of the woods, "Let him come. He's okay."
"You really think so, Angel?" I asked.
"Yes, Max. He just wants to help." Angel replied.
"Okay then. Ari, you are now part of the flock. More permanently, now."
"Thank you Max!" Ari exclaimed.
"We should probably get back to the rest of the flock now." I said.
Me, Angel and Ari walked into the woods, awaiting what would happen tomorrow.
