Her name was Yagami Hikari. It had been one boring day of school that she looked out her window and saw a notebook fall to the ground, the Death Note. Unlike any sensible person, she didn't think it was a joke. Of course, her being a genius, it wouldn't make sense for her to think like that. She thought like that anyway. She supposed it was the actions of her friend, Amane Misa that made her think like that. But even Misa would at first think it was a joke. One night she had written a criminals name down in the death note, and he died. Exactly like the Death Note had said. She decided she would become the new god of the world, ridding evil and criminals; creating the perfect world.

"Hikari, you ran out of apples!"

Yes, and the shinigami who owned the Death Note, Ryuk, was a strange one indeed. He didn't seem to be what she had thought at first, and, in fact, he was a bit eccentric. He was probably the first (and only) shinigami who was more obsessed with apples than anyone on earth.

"Fine, I'll go buy more apples," Hikari said, putting on her jacket and leaving her room.

"Hey, Hikari-chan, where are you going?" Sayu asked, looking from the couch.

"I'm going out, tell Kaa-san that if I'm not back before she is," Hikari replied, putting on her boots and leaving the house.

Hikari supposed her style of clothing came from what her small circle of friends wore, the most from Misa. Misa, being the famous model with all those clothes, had given her lots of clothes to "try on". She would put them on and Misa would say, "Hikari-chan looks so cute in those clothes! You should keep them!" And since they did look good on her, she wore them.

So many people walked passed her with their names and time left floating above their heads. She had made the deal, half her time left to live for the eyes of a shinigami. You would be able to see a persons name and time left floating above their head unless the person owned a death note, which then, you would only be able to see their name.

Why did she trade half her life for shinigami eyes if she wanted to be a god? Hikari herself didn't really know why she had done that, but she would think about that later on.

"Hikari, I need apples!" Ryuk whined, flying behind her.

She sighed. "Don't you eat anything else besides apples?" she had whispered, but a person passing by had heard that and stared at her weirdly.

"Apples are so yummy and juicy and…" he went into a long rant about how delicious apples were.

Hikari finally reached the store (which was only about 10-15 minutes away) and bought a whole bunch of apples before walking the way back to her house. She threw an apple in the air in which Ryuk grabbed and ate it.

"I still don't see why you like apples so much," Hikari said, walked upstairs to her room and locking the door.

"They're so yummy, you should try one Hikari!"

"No thanks, after that apple pie eating contest a few weeks ago, I'm sick of apples,"

"Sick of apples!? I would die before being sick of apples!"

"How ironic," Hikari said, which Ryuk ignored and took another apple from the small pile on her bed.

Hikari turned on her mini TV and took out her Death Note to write some criminal names down. She yawned and wrote some names down while thinking about things.

Then she remembered.

She remembered the day Ryuk told her about the deal, and the reason she had done it even though she wanted to be the new god of a newer, safer world. And it was the same reason she had started the game, the reason why she wanted to be a god, the reason why she was just her.

It was because she was bored.
