Hello, my name is Reina and this is my story.
The iron cage unlocked, slowly getting to my feet, I was then herded into another small mobile cage. A dark sheet was thrown over it, engulfing me in darkness. The cage jerked forward and I waited for my call. The circus here was widely known as one of the best, the best when you were looking for something unusual that is. I was just one attraction of many. We must have reached the center of the ring since the cheering crowd quickly went hush. The announcer, who was also my master, cleared his throat. "Ladies and gentlemen. Tonight we have shown you the amazing, the strange, and the abomidible. To mark the end of our show, I am about to show you true evil. For the faint of heart, please… leave now." The voice faded and there were slight murmurs. "Behold!" And the sheet was ripped away.
I leaped to my feet and pushed my back to the bars. The crowd started murmuring once more and there were a few angry shouts. They wanted unusual, horrid, not this...a wolf. I simply bore my teeth and snarled in compliance. "People! People! Please. What you see before you is not just any of its kind." The announcer carefully unhooked the small whip that was strapped to this hip. He quickly spun towards me and struck.
The whip went through the bars and struck hard. Stinging pain ran through my body and I couldn't help but give out a whelp and whimper. The ship struck again, and again. Several of the spectators gave out angry shouts, and some of simple disappointment. I could no longer stand the searing pain; I succumbed to his will and began the act. My legs buckled and the bones within my body began to shift. The crowd gasped and their faced were stricken with horror. My face shorted, hair grew inward, and several of my toes split in two. After the shift, I was unrecognizable, except for a few details, and I hated every second of my form. To express this, I gave out a roar of defiance that even caused wicked old man to flinch.
The man returned his gaze to the crowd. "Behold, a Lycan! She may appear human, but trust me in me and your eyes, do not let its guise fool you." The old man grinned and bent down to bow. "Thank you my friends for coming tonight. I wish you farewell and a goodnight." At that he tipped his hat and the air around the ring exploded in a white smoke and we "vanished" as the smoke cleared, leaving the crowd speechless.
After the show I once again herded into my main cage to prepare for departure. "Reina." The old man walked up the cage, looking irritated. "Next time, you will change when you are told!" He took the whip from his hip and struck me across the face in one quick move. The blow caused me to fall off balance and a small trickle of blood went down the side of my face. He simply looked on without mercy. "Have you forgotten who took you in when others would have killed you on sight? Do it again…and I won't be so forgiving." As turned to walk away, he stopped at one of the hands that busy preparing food for the animals; "No need to worry about her, she can go a night without food…make sure she remembers who's the master". The sheet was once again thrown over the cage and I was left alone in the dark.
My name is Reina and I am a Lycan. My race were once intelligent wolves with the gift of speech. We of the pack had developed the ability to take on the forms of humans over time. Though we have this ability, we still retain small features of our true selves. Such as our tails, our ears, and fangs. Because of this, we are seen as demons and are being hunted to extinction. My name is Reina, and this is my story.
