As I lay in his arms, I feel peace and warmth.

I love him.

I could finally free myself of this petty insecurity about Sookie Stackhouse- he chose me. Eric Northman chose me over Sookie fucking Stackhouse.

I smile and lay soft kisses on his chest and he twitches in his sleep.

Adorable.

I'm so glad I waited for him, for this moment.

I snuggle back into him, nuzzling the crook of his neck. "I love you, Eric."

"Sookie."

"GODDAMMIT!" I scream, flinging the tumbler into his newly painted wall. "GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!"

Empty bottles lay everywhere, the occasional pile of glass accompanying them.

I was drunk because of Sookie.

It's always Sookie.

I gave him everything. Something I swore to treasure until I was married to my dream man- to Prince Charming.

Instead, he dreams of her while I lay next to him. He imagines she is in his arms instead of me. He will never think I'm good enough. I will never be enough in his eyes.

"Verity, what the hell is going on?" His husky voice called as he stumbled into the room. "Are you drunk?"

"You bet your sweet Vampiric ass I am!" I snarled. "I can't believe what you did."

"What the fuck are you talking about? Come on, let's go back to bed." He winked seductively, grabbing my waist.

"No! No, no, no, NO!" I knew I sounded fucking crazy, maybe I was, but I couldn't lie with him again. Not after he made his feelings known. "Do you know what you said last night when I told you I loved you?"

"What?" Eric groaned, as if exasperated.

"Sookie."

His face turned ashen, panicking. "It's not what it sounds like..."

"I think it is. You still love her!" I sobbed. "I've given everything up for you! My career, my life, my virginity! It was never enough! It will never be enough!"

"Ver, you don't understand..."

"You're right: I don't. This needs to stop." I took a deep breath. "This is the last time I can take you whispering her name at night or when we're making love. You've made me a hard drinker because I am always crying when I'm with you! I'm turning into my mother."

I stumbled into the bedroom, yanking some of Eric's expensive luggage out of the closet. "I am leaving."

Eric opened his mouth and I knew he was about to hurt me in order to mask his true emotions. "Fine! Go! You'll never mean as much to me as Sookie does. She's powerful, useful, beautiful! You're weak and easily manipulated. Average. I don't need someone like you warming my bed. Get the hell out if you want to leave so badly!"

"GLADLY!" I stumbled out of the door, putting my keys into the car. "Goodbye."

"Good riddance, you poor excuse of a Sookie-Stackhouse-Substitute."
