Max POV:
Suddenly, an enormous creature surged out of the ocean, grabbed Sue- Anne by the leg and sank back into the black depths.
"LEOPARD SEAL!" Bryan yelled throwing down his clipboard and racing toward the water. "Get help! Get Paul and the others!"
Sue-Anne's head bobbed above the water, and she screamed, but she was choked off as the seal dragged her under again. It was huge, with a watermelon-sized head, its sharp-toothed jaws clamped around Sue-Anne's leg.
"Go!" I ordered Gazzy, who was staring at the water. There were splotches of darkness in the water, and the ice at the opening was slightly tainted pink. "Go! And the rest of you get back to the station!"
Immediately, without question, Gazzy grabbed Iggy, and they, Nudge and Angel started slipping and running over the snow back to the station. I heard Gazzy yelling for help.
"Come on!" I told Fang, and ran to a quick takeoff. He was right behind me. "When her head comes up again, grab her." The wind whipped my hair around in circles. I scanned the water below to see a head bob above the surface again.
We dropped out of the sky like rocks and gabbed Sue-Anne's jacket. Fang kicked the seal in the head and it roared, letting go of its prey. We started to swoop up again, but seal was to quick. With another growl of anger, the monster launched itself out of the water and latched onto my ankle. I let out a small squeak in pain and accidentally let go of the fabric in my hand. Suddenly, I was plummeting toward the water.
Before, I could hit, I saw something splash into the water beside me, and I was suddenly being lifted up. I looked up to see Fang, who had grabbed my hand and was working with all his might to try to keep me in the air. I tried to help by flapping my wings as hard as I could and kicking the seal in the head, but that just made it madder. It dug its teeth into me deeper and started whipping its head around. Suddenly, Fang lost his grip and I hit the icy whitecaps.
"Max!" I heard Fang scream as I went under. Holy crap! It was freezing! I tried to do an underwater scream but it didn't work so well. The bubbles escaped from my mouth and I had to say goodbye to my air supply. Great job Max. I'm glad I was trying to stay alive.
I tried kicking the seal again. No dice. It just made it drag me down faster.
My vision was getting burry now and my lungs were filled with burning liquid. The blood from my foot died the water a pink. I was losing way too much blood, way too fast.
I now knew I was going to die. No question about it. I just wished I could have told the flock how much I loved them. If Angel could hear me I hoped she would tell them for me. Oh, and tell Fang I loved him too. Especially him. If I could have one final wish it would be to see his face one more time.
Somehow, my wish was granted, because before I could sink into an eternal slumber I saw someone swimming toward me. His black hair was pushed back from his face. Fang. I knew it was just my imagination, but it was just the thing I needed before I died. With a small smile on my face, I closed my eyes and passed out.
