Disclaimer: I'm still going to school and am currently ditching my homework to do this. Does it sound like I'm J.K. Rowling?
Harry was family that's the truth and it's definitely not up for debate. I might not be the sharpest crayon in the box but I'm not stupid. It's pretty obvious what goes on in the Dursley household and maybe that's what makes Harry reluctant to become part of our family. He feels like he's intruding but he's the only to feel that way (except for maybe Percy, but he's a git so his opinion doesn't count).
He probably became part of our bunch the first time he came to the Burrow the summer after first year- no, it had to have been after Mum showed him how to get on the train. She always referred to him as the 'sweet little muggle-born who got lost on the train' until after I told her who he was. That's the thing about Mum she loved everyone, it takes a lot for her to find a fault in someone even if she is quick to anger. Anyway back to Harry, I knew the moment that he got the maroon sweater from Mum that first Christmas at Hogwarts he was family, and that was incontrovertible.
