They had waited, for years they had waited. Waited for the day when Fate was no longer needed, when they could have Dick back even for a while. But as the years had passed by, then decades, then half a century they knew it was not likely. But they had passed into eternity now; there was no time-limit. They had seen everyone they needed to; they were only waiting for one now. And he was coming.
There was a fight and everyone made mistakes. Dick had passed relatively quickly and they could see him soon.
A figure came over the hill.
. . . . .
Dick had lived a long life. He had met interesting people and he did not regret what he had lived. That was the most he could say. But now his spirit was free, Fate had a new host, and he could have peace. He could have his family again.
This place was bright, vibrant, filled with the emerald, canary, magenta, and brown hues of earth and plant, the pure white of cloud, blazing blinding color of sun, and azure blue of sky. Mountains adorned the skyline, rivers snaked, and a lake glittered in the distance. But as he crossed the crest of a hill and looked down he couldn't care less.
There were his Team, the League, the Batclan, his circus family, his parents. Even the new additions and Bruce's parents were there. His grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousin. He froze for a moment and then he couldn't bare to wait any longer. Not after so long. He couldn't remember who he hugged first, but he knew that he was surrounded by all the people he had missed. Bruce smiled at him.
"Welcome home. There are some people who have wanted to meet you." He turned him to the new members of the Batclan, the Robins.
"Hey," Dick greeted. He had watched them as Fate of course, but never actually met them. They studied each other for a moment before the eldest, Jason, spoke.
"Took you long enough, Goldie," But there was no bite to his words.
"Father has told us much about you, Grayson. I expected you to be taller," The youngest continued. Damian, Dick remembered. The last Robin.
"Sorry to disappoint. Any tricks I don't know?"
"Of course," Damian said, as if it were obvious. "We can fly here you know." And he launched into the sky, looking down at them as if that were his place in the world and they should have known that.
"Whelming," Dick whispered and launched up as well. And his eternity began.
Wow, that was a cheesier ending than the last. I hope you liked the Alternate Ending to Hourglass. And if you need clarification then here: Dick kept on the Helmet and stayed as Fate even as everyone passed on. Eventually there came a fight where his body received a mortal wound and he died, but his spirit stayed with Fate until he gained a new host. This is when he arrives to his forever. And once again to my dearest anonymous reviewer, 'disappointedguest', I am not ignoring you. Please reference chapter twelve of 'Hourglass'. I hope that you have all enjoyed the story and have a fantastic week,
